Role Objectives

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Legal Officer to join the Legal Department at Mogo Credit Limited. This role is suited to an early-career legal professional seeking to gain practical in-house experience in litigation support, regulatory compliance, contract management, and general legal advisory within the financial services sector. 

 

The Junior Legal Officer will work under the supervision of senior members of the legal team and will support day-to-day legal operations, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.

What You Will Do

  • Assist in providing legal advice and support to internal departments on routine legal matters, including contracts, disputes, compliance, and general business operations, under supervision. 
  • Support the management of litigation and dispute resolution matters by preparing case files, legal documentation, court pleadings, and tracking case progress. 
  • Attend court sessions, tribunals, and legal proceedings as required, and assist with follow-up actions, filings, and enforcement of court decisions. 
  • Assist in handling legal complaints and claims by ensuring timely documentation, responses, and escalation to senior legal officers where necessary. 
  • Draft, review, and assist in negotiating basic contracts, agreements, MOUs, leases, and other standard legal documents under guidance. 
  • Maintain and update the legal documents and contract registry, ensuring proper filing, organization, and tracking of agreements and renewals. 
  • Support regulatory compliance activities by assisting in monitoring applicable laws and regulations and implementing compliance-related actions. 
  • Conduct legal and regulatory research and prepare summaries on relevant laws, regulations, and judicial decisions affecting the company. 
  • Liaise with external legal counsel, courts, registries, and regulators on routine matters as directed by senior legal staff. 
  • Assist in the development, review, and implementation of internal policies, procedures, and compliance documentation. 
  • Support the legal recoveries process in collaboration with collections, credit risk, and operations teams, ensuring actions comply with legal requirements. 
  • Assist with preparation of legal reports, opinions, meeting agendas, resolutions, and minutes when required. 
  • Participate in internal meetings and assist with follow-up on legal action points. 
  • Support legal awareness and training initiatives for staff by preparing materials and documentation. 
  • Perform any other legal or administrative duties as may be assigned from time to time. 


What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized institution. 
  • Post Graduate Diploma in Law from Law School of Tanzania. 
  • Admitted to the Roll of Advocates in Tanzania. 
  • Current Active Practice Certificate. 
  • One (1) to three (3) years’ post-admission experience or relevant legal internship / pupilage experience. 
  • Exposure to litigation, compliance, or in-house legal work will be an added advantage. 
  • Experience within financial services, fintech, or regulated institutions is desirable but not mandatory. 


Competence

  • Good knowledge of Tanzanian laws and regulatory frameworks. 
  • Strong legal research and drafting skills. 
  • Good organizational and time-management abilities with attention to detail. 
  • Ability to follow instructions, learn quickly, and work under supervision. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal research tools. 
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and develop in-house legal expertise.
