Description

  • Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders. Issuing out instructions to external counsels to institute recovery suits against defaulting clients. 
  • Maintain a register of all claims, suits and assignments in a prescribed format. Reviewing suit documents to ensure the same are accurate. And ensuring a timely update on the progress of the suits and assisting in debt recovery processes. 
  • Maintain databases and records to ensure that they are updated and easily accessible to  and by the relevant stakeholders. 
  • Assist in reviewing progress of outstanding litigation. Managing and liaising with external counsels on all matters litigation and attending court as and when required. 
  • Offer legal support to debt collection team and other business departments and offer advisory on the matters as may be required. 
  • Preparation, drafting and review of settlement agreements, contracts and other legal documents. Coordinate and track any key legal dates including contract renewals and relevant deadlines.  
  • Help prepare documents for regulatory filings and compliance reports. 
  • Assist with corporate governance tasks, including maintaining corporate records, board minutes, and filings.  
  • Manage and organize the company’s legal documentation, ensuring all records are up-to-date and compliant with company policies and regulations.  
  • Provide general administrative support to the legal team, including scheduling meetings, preparing presentations and handling internal communication. 
  • Assist in the maintenance and updating of ERP  ensuring all tasks, cases, claims and suits are accurately updated and are up to date.  
  • Perform administrative duties such as scheduling meetings, providing information to members of legal department, writing minutes  
  • Prepare and manage the legal department's hardcopy filing system, including the Company's legal documents database for contracts, agreements, litigation history, licenses and registrations, among other related documents. This includes managing the legal documents registry, ensuring the proper maintenance of the database and registry, and conducting periodic checks to confirm that it remains up to date. 
  • Any other duties assigned. 


Requirements

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized institution.
  • At least 2 years proven experience as a legal assistant/paralegal 
  • Progressive experience in a corporate legal department (preferred). 
  • Experience working in-house or with financial institutions, particularly within the microfinance sector, is highly preferred
  • Knowledge of corporate law, civil litigation and regulatory compliance.  
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal software (e.g., contract management systems or documenta management tools).  
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills. Proven ability to manage multiple cases and legal matters concurrently and meet deadlines.   
  • A proactive approach to identifying legal risks and solutions. Strong attention to detail and the ability to think critically and strategically.  
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal stakeholders and external parties.  
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion in handling sensitive information. 
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. 
  • Results-oriented, self-motivated, self-starter, who is flexible and adaptable to rapid change and can work in a fast-paced, high demand environment.
