What we are looking for

An experienced senior level leader to shape our community engagement strategy with strong work ethic, great communication skills, deep community insight, and the ability to drive engagement at a strategic level.





About the role

The role reports directly to the CEO and will be responsible for developing and overseeing community initiatives, strengthening relationships with key stakeholders, and ensuring our outreach efforts align with TooMuchWifi’s mission.


The Director will provide strategic guidance, manage escalations of major issues or risks, and support a team of Community Engagement Specialists across various areas of expertise and geographies in executing impactful programs.

What you will be doing

Strategic Leadership
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive Community Engagement Strategy that aligns with the company’s goals.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the Community Engagement team, ensuring a cohesive and effective approach.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of programs designed to strengthen community relationships.
  • Identify and mitigate risks and challenges in community interactions, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Establish strategic relations with relevant stakeholders.
  • Be the chief custodian and representative of our communities we serve.



Community Engagement & Outreach
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local community leaders, stakeholders, and residents.
  • Identify community needs and opportunities for impactful engagement initiatives.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for major issues or risks that arise in community interactions.
  • Represent TooMuchWifi at community meetings, forums, and events, ensuring clear and transparent communication.
  • Report and document pivotal community intel.
Team Leadership & Support
  • Lead, mentor, and support the Community Engagement team.
  • Foster a collaborative, motivated, and high-performance team environment aligned with TooMuchWifi’s values.
  • Provide guidance, training, and resources to ensure the team executes engagement initiatives effectively.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Work closely with other departments (e.g., Commercial, Customer Operations, and Network Teams) to ensure alignment of community efforts with company goals.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with NGOs, community organizations, and government entities to enhance outreach impact.
  • Advocate for the role of digital access in economic and social development within township communities and beyond.
Program Oversight & Reporting
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of community programs and events.
  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of engagement initiatives, using data-driven insights to refine strategies.
  • Ensure budget oversight and resource allocation for community projects.


Minimum requirements

  • Previous experience working with NGO’s/NPO’s within the Township space will be highly advantageous.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Development, Business, Community Development, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of leadership experience in community engagement, outreach, or non-profit program management.
  • Strong understanding of township communities and their social and economic dynamics.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven experience in crisis management, risk mitigation, and strategic planning.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data for decision-making and reporting.
  • Highly proficient in English; native in Xhosa is an advantage.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transport (willingness to travel within communities).
