What we are looking for

A highly proficient network engineer to work in close collaboration with our software and network engineering teams. As a member of our team, your primary responsibility will be the meticulous upkeep and vigilant monitoring of TooMuchWifi’s  rapidly expanding network.



About the role

A network technician plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of computer networks within an organisation, and is responsible for the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of network infrastructure, including hardware, software, and communication systems. Network technicians are essential in supporting the organisation's connectivity and for ensuring that employees can effectively communicate and access resources.



Responsibilities

  • Network Infrastructure Setup:  Network infrastructure components such as routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points. Configure these devices to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability.


  • Network Maintenance:  Perform routine maintenance tasks, including monitoring network performance, identifying and resolving issues, and applying necessary updates and patches. Conduct regular inspections, diagnose network problems, and implement solutions promptly to minimise downtime.


  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve any network issues when they arise. Use network monitoring tools, diagnostic utilities, and technical expertise to identify the root cause of problems, whether it is related to hardware, software, or connectivity issues.


  • User Support: Provide technical assistance and support to end-users experiencing network-related issues. Communicate technical concepts in a user-friendly manner, assisting individuals in resolving connectivity problems, setting up network access, or troubleshooting network-related software.


Required qualifications, skills and experience

  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and technologies (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, etc.).
  • Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points).
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and diagnostic tools.
  • Understanding of network security principles and best practices.
  • Knowledge of cabling standards and experience with physical network installations.
  • Ability to document network configurations and procedures accurately.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, CCNA) are beneficial but not always required.
