The Role:

TOBIN is seeking a skilled and motivated Design Engineer to join our Galway office. This role is ideal for an ambitious civil engineer eager to progress, contribute to impactful infrastructure projects, and work within a collaborative and respected consultancy.

About the Role:

We require a Level 8 Honours Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent), along with approximately 3–6 years’ experience. As part of our multidisciplinary team, you will support project delivery, produce high‑quality design work, and benefit from ongoing mentorship and structured career development.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Design Engineer, you will:


  • Liaise with clients, under direction of Project Managers, to support successful project outcomes.
  • Review and provide guidance on design documents prepared by Graduate Engineers.
  • Prepare and review preliminary design reports, calculations, drawings, and detailed specifications using industry‑standard software tools.
  • Utilise AutoCAD 2D, Civil 3D, and develop further capabilities in AutoCAD 3D and BIM platforms such as Autodesk Revit.
  • Assist in procuring and administering Site Investigation, Building, and Civil Engineering Contracts.
  • Support tender document preparation, tender evaluations, and cost assessments.
  • Contribute to contract administration to ensure compliance with design intent, programme, and budget.
  • Collaborate closely with your Line Manager, Project Managers, and senior engineering staff to deliver high‑quality project outputs.


Skills & Experience Required:

We are seeking candidates who possess:


  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and working experience with Civil 3D.
  • A willingness to develop skills in BIM (Autodesk Revit), MicroDrainage, Microsoft Access, ArcGIS, MapInfo, and other engineering software.
  • Working knowledge of Public Works Contract forms (PW‑CF) and construction contract administration.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project and other planning/design software.
  • Strong technical capability, attention to detail, and a collaborative approach to problem‑solving.
