Role & Responsibilities

Barrows is seeking a highly strategic and operationally driven Chief of Staff to partner with executive leadership in steering the agency’s growth, performance, and cultural impact. This role is critical to ensuring the CEO and leadership team remain focused on top priorities by driving key initiatives, aligning teams, and managing communication at the highest levels. The ideal candidate is a trusted advisor, an expert executor, and a sharp strategist who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.


In addition to bringing this killer attitude, energy, and veteran skill set, they must be able to lead the development of strategy against the North American client portfolio with the following key accountabilities:


Strategic Acumen

  • Partner with leadership to translate business goals into actionable plans across global commerce, marketing, and digital transformation.
  • Facilitate annual and quarterly strategic planning cycles, including tracking KPIs and business health metrics.
  • Identify white-space opportunities, business risks, and areas for organizational improvement or innovation.


Operational Excellence

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives that drive efficiency, scalability, and consistency across teams and offices.
  • Own the planning and execution of key business initiatives, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and accountability are maintained.
  • Optimize internal operating rhythms and meeting cadences, ensuring leadership time is spent on what matters most.


Executive Communication

  • Prepare executive-level materials, briefings, and internal/external presentations with clear, compelling narratives.
  • Serve as a representative and proxy in meetings, ensuring aligned follow-through and clarity of direction.
  • Manage internal communications and key leadership messaging with consistency and impact.


Discretion & Trust

  • Handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior leaders and act as a thought partner to the CEO or MD.
  • Anticipate leadership needs and proactively address challenges with empathy and good judgment.


Agency & Client Fluency

  • Navigate the nuances of agency operations and client dynamics, with the ability to translate between brand-side needs and agency delivery.
  • Work closely with client teams to ensure agency operations align with client expectations and evolving commercial needs.
  • Support business development efforts and client onboarding where needed to operationalize success.

  • Take initiative in surfacing issues, proposing solutions, and pushing projects over the finish line.
  • Manage competing priorities with a calm, composed, and solutions-oriented approach.

Qualifications

  • 10 - 15 years of experience in consulting, strategic operations, or a similar leadership support role within a marketing, digital, or commerce-focused organization.
  • Strong understanding of agency structures and client service models.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • High emotional intelligence, resilience, and executive presence.
  • Demonstrated strategic acumen with the ability to connect high-level vision to day-to-day execution.
  • Strong operational discipline with a track record of driving structure, focus, and accountability across cross-functional initiatives.
  • Based in New York City, with the ability to work onsite four days per week to collaborate closely with executive leadership and key stakeholders.


Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $130,000 to $192,000*

*exact compensation will be determined based on individual experience
