AUDITION CALL — Please Read Carefully!

YOUNG PERFORMERS FOR GLOBE THEATRE’S PRODUCTION OF A CHRISTMAS CAROL

Adaptation by Michael Shamata

Directed by Judy Wensel

Choreography & Movement by Misty Wensel

We’re looking for spirited young performers to join the cast of A Christmas Carol this holiday season!

Globe Theatre will be casting eight young performers, divided into two rotating casts of 4, to form our Street Urchin Spirit Chorus — an essential and imaginative force within this production. This chorus will function as mischievous, whimsical guides who help drive the emotional and narrative journey of A Christmas Carol. Blending movement, voice, and ensemble work, the Spirit Chorus will shadow, provoke, and inspire Ebenezer Scrooge as he is led through past, present, and future.

We’re looking for kids AGES 7-13 who are

  • Spirited and curious
  • Love to play and move
  • Comfortable using their bodies to tell stories (dance training not required!)
  • Collaborative and open-hearted
  • Interested in speaking text aloud and developing character
  • Eager to explore fun, physical, and expressive work in a group setting
  • Enthusiastic about working hard and committing to being part of a professional theatre experience

Four children will be cast in featured roles:

  • Tiny Tim/Young Ebenezer
  • Fan/Belinda

Additional roles (e.g., Martha or Peter Cratchit) may be cast from the Spirit Chorus depending on age and fit.

COMMITMENT

  • Rehearsal
  • Children cast members will primarily rehearse after school (4:00–6:00 PM) and on weekends. Some school time will need to be missed during technical rehearsals and for weekday matinee performances. All rehearsal dates and times and the performance schedule will be provided well in advance.

  • Performances
  • There will be two rotating casts of children, with each cast alternating performances throughout the run. On average, each cast will perform approximately four shows per week.

This structure is designed to support the well-being of young performers, ensuring they have adequate rest, time for school, and opportunities to enjoy the experience without becoming overwhelmed. A detailed performance schedule indicating which cast performs on which dates will be provided well in advance of opening.

Pre-Rehearsal Workshops

Children cast members will also be required to participate in Pre-Rehearsal Group Workshops in September and October. There will be five weekly workshops (2–3 hours each) designed to prepare the chorus for rehearsals — focusing on ensemble-building, choreography, and grounding in the story.
