From our origins as a small troupe touring Saskatchewan schools, to our present as Canada’s only professional theatre in the round, The Globe Theatre is a pioneer in the landscape of Canadian theatre.
With the help of a dedicated team of permanent, part-time, freelance, and volunteer workers, our theatre has been bringing a season of theatre to Regina and the surrounding communities every year since 1966. Under the artistic guidance of Ken and Sue Kramer, Susan Ferley, Ruth Smillie, and now Jennifer Brewin; The Globe has grown into a fundamental part of the Regina community.
Alongside our mainstage performances, The Globe Theatre offers a variety of additional programming that includes our Sandbox Theatre series, play readings, new work development, digital programming, and a dedicated theatre education program through the Globe Theatre School.
Our evolving history of work on stage and in the community shows our vision and commitment to an optimistic future full of stories of transformation, resilience, and hope.
To entertain, educate and engage in the art of professional theatre through producing high quality performances, providing theatre education and serving as a valuable part of the Regina community.
Globe Theatre is located on Treaty 4 territory, the traditional lands of the nêhiyawak, Anihšināpēk, Dakota, Nakoda, Lakota, and the homeland of the Métis/Michif Nation. In the spirit of welcoming, Globe Theatre continues to actively seek out partnerships with companies and individuals who share our love for theatre and the land we inhabit together. We are proud to partner with other non-profits within our community such as The Autism Resource Centre as a way of giving back to the city that has given us so much.
Likewise, The Globe Theatre School has been an incredible opportunity to feed the culture of our community by introducing theatre to the young people of Regina. We are so grateful to be instilling a lifelong love of theatre and the arts in every student that joins us.
We are proud to partner with local artists and theatre makers and provide them with the support and resources they need to advance their career. Through artistic residencies, internships, projects with the Globe, or support through their own companies, the Globe is committed to helping our artists be seen and heard.
The Globe Theatre is committed to the principles of Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) and we are working to model these principles both onstage and off. This includes our commitment to provide equitable opportunities and representation for women, Indigenous peoples, people of colour, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
We acknowledge there are systemic practices that perpetuate harm. We are committed to consciously working to identify and correct these practices as we create and present theatre to the people of Regina and surrounding communities.
We believe that our capacity to fulfill our mission and mandate is built on our ability to provide a safe, inclusive, and welcoming working and learning environment. By advancing principles of anti-oppression, decolonization and anti-racism, all members of our community, our audience, volunteers, staff, Board of Directors, and freelance theatre makers, will thrive in the pursuit of entertaining and engaging theatre.
We embrace the challenge to adopt and model ethical and equitable interactions in all aspects of the organization. We welcome every opportunity to learn and adapt by providing space for feedback and time for knowledge gathering.
While we have a long road ahead, we are dedicated to approaching this work with humility, courage, and momentum.
