Description

Dublin Zoo is currently seeking to recruit a zoo professional for the position of ‘Registrar’ on a specific purpose basis.


The role of Registrar is to ensure that Dublin Zoo's animal records are maintained to a high standard. The successful candidate will be responsible for organising animal imports and exports in an efficient manner and in compliance with relevant legislation, act as a Sparsholt College contact point, regularly corresponding with other zoos.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update animal records on ZIMS, including veterinary details and computerized and paper records.
  • Train animal staff in the use of ZIMS and supervise the correct input of data.
  • Compile annual census.
  • Compile annual zoo licensing questionnaire and assist with annual zoo inspection.
  • Liaise with zoos in relation to animals in breeding programs and studbooks.
  • Organise imports and exports of animals.
  • Tutor for staff doing the Animal Management course through Sparsholt College.
  • Help interview staff for animal care positions.
  • Assisting with Zoo’s Animal Health regulation compliance.
  • Compile Reports when requested
  • Any other duties that may be required for the animal department.

Requirements


This position requires excellent communication, organisational, IT and report writing skills.


Essential

  • Tertiary Qualification in an appropriate discipline e.g. zoology or other wildlife related science.
  • 3 years experience working in a Zoological Garden and/or wildlife park
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Experience drafting reports.

Desirable                                  

  • Strong knowledge and Understanding of BALAI (now Animal Health directive) requirements.
  • Knowledge in the use of ZIMS
