AIM Qualifications and Assessment Group have an exciting opportunity for a Qualifications and Assessment Manager.

 

Location: Home based or Hybrid (Derby office)

Salary: £40,241 to £45,864

Contract: Full time 36.5 hours per week

The Qualifications and Assessment Manager will manage the day-to-day development, review, and quality assurance of AIM's qualification and apprenticeship portfolio including associated assessments, ensuring they meet regulatory standards and market needs while leading a team of developers and specialists.

What you will be doing

Qualification / Standards Development & Lifecycle Management

Lead the end-to-end development process for new qualifications developments (regulated/non-regulated and apprenticeship Standards) from concept to approval.

 Lead on the Design, implementation and management of effective supportive materials and processes to support apprentices and their employers undertaking End-Point Assessments.

Manage and lead on the annual review cycle for existing qualifications and standards, implementing improvements

Manage and lead on the Withdrawal process of Qualification and Standards

Oversee assessment design (exam papers, mark schemes, MCQs) ensuring validity/reliability

Manage secure assessment materials lifecycle (storage/distribution)

Manage own case load of development work

Coordinate awarding meetings 

Oversee MCQ bank maintenance and digital assessment migration


 Strategic Delivery Oversight

Contribute to apprenticeship and qualification development strategy

 Contribute to the implementation of an apprenticeship and Qualification strategy aligned to the strategic plan.

Implementing and managing processes and procedures to monitor and report on performance of apprenticeship and Qualification outcomes, ensuring consistency of assessment practice year on year.

Implement process improvement projects

Ensure development and review processes have detailed SOPS and process maps that are reviewed annually

Working with the Deputy Director of Apprenticeships, Qualifications and Assessment to exercise budget responsibility for apprenticeship and Qualification operations, ensuring that expenditure is regularly monitored, and that effective financial controls are in place

 Lead on the production of the report to the board of trustee by providing an accurate analysis of all data required in relation own functional area.

Regulations & Quality Assurance 

Design Develop and Implement standardisation materials for EQA, Centres for internal assessments

Manage accurate and timely regulatory data returns in relation to Qualifications and Standards

Contribute to internal audits and support external regulatory reviews

Contribute and Lead on Self-Assessment process relevant to own functional area

Ensure compliance of the General Conditions of Recognition (Ofqual) relevant to own area and compliance of other regulators within the End-Point Assessment agenda, such as Institute of Apprenticeships (IFA) and the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA). Identifying changes in apprenticeship regulatory guidelines and their potential impacts on compliance.

 Recording and reviewing operational risks and issues within own area of responsibility including establishing controls and contingency plans to mitigate as far as possible.


Stakeholder Engagement

Liaise with centres/training providers on qualification and Standards to inform development, review and withdrawal activities

Represent AIM at sector events and forums

Collaborate with commercial/marketing teams

Work with the apprenticeship Delivery team to ensure assessment materials are effectively integrated into operations.


People & Performance Management

Lead and develop a high-performing team, ensuring clear objectives and accountability.

Implement performance management processes, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Support staff development through coaching, mentoring, and training opportunities.

Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the team and across AIM.

 Line manage qualification developers and assessment staff

 Recruit/train external associates (writers, Qualification Developers)

Monitor team KPIs (development timelines, compliance metrics)

Reviewing staff and wider workforce conflict of interest declarations and agreeing mitigations where required within own area of responsibility.

Oversee the Conflicts of interest process for Assessor ensuring appropriate mitigations are in place and recorded.


 Process Improvement and Innovation

Identify areas for process enhancements and efficiency improvements.

Support initiatives for service improvements and quality assurance.

Contribute to projects aimed at enhancing AIM’s operations and customer experience.

 Lead on the Development, use and review of policies, procedures and standard operating procedures for your own functional area

Identify and escalate risks, regulatory issues, or process inefficiencies.

Lead on the Issues and Incident logs that relate to your own functional area

Complete self-Assessment activities annual for assigned Conditions and principles


Innovation, Growth & Business Development

Identify opportunities to improve services, products, and operational processes.

Contribute to business development, revenue growth, and market expansion.

Support innovation through strategic initiatives and cross-functional collaboration.

Ability to create high quality reports for a range of audiences

An effective communicator with individuals and groups of all levels

Experience of the regulatory requirements for end point assessment

Experience of working for an awarding organisation or regulator

Experience of managing change and building successful teams

Experience of working with stakeholders

A creative approach to development of processes and procedures

Experience of qualification and assessment development (including apprenticeship)

Strong understanding of the UK qualifications landscape, including regulatory frameworks (Ofqual, SQA, Qualifications Wales)

Knowledge of assessment practices, validity, reliability

Experience in working with diverse stakeholders

Project management experience with successful outcomes

Experience of working autonomously

Knowledge of Microsoft packages
