About the Role


As an Independent End-Point Assessor, you will assess apprentices undertaking the Digital Learning Designer Level 5 apprenticeship standard once they have successfully completed their training and entered Gateway.


Using your industry expertise, you will make fair, valid and independent assessment decisions against the published assessment and grading criteria, helping to ensure apprentices meet the professional standards expected within the digital learning and learning design sector.

What You'll Be Doing


You'll conduct independent End-Point Assessments in line with the apprenticeship standard and EPA plan, assessing apprentices against the published assessment and grading criteria and the associated knowledge, skills and behaviours.


Assessment activities include a Project with Presentation and Questioning and a Professional Discussion underpinned by a Portfolio of Evidence. You'll review evidence, conduct assessment and make independent grading decisions and complete assessment documentation within agreed timescales.


You'll also participate in induction, training, standardisation and quality assurance activities to ensure assessment decisions remain fair, reliable and consistent.


Essential Requirements


To be considered for this role, applicants must:


• Be independent and have no conflict of interest with apprentices, employers or training providers.

• Have substantial and relevant occupational experience within digital learning, learning technology, instructional design, e-learning or learning and development.

• Hold membership of, or actively engage with, relevant professional bodies such as The Association for Learning Technology (ALT), RITTech or equivalent organisations.

• Have recent relevant experience at occupational Level 4 or above within the last three years or possess significant professional experience within the occupation or sector.

• Have worked within digital learning, learning design or learning technology roles within the last three years.

• Be able to demonstrate current occupational competence in designing and developing digital learning solutions, creating engaging and accessible learning experiences, applying instructional design principles and evaluating the effectiveness of digital learning interventions.

• Understand the apprenticeship occupational standard and End-Point Assessment plan.

• Hold, or be working towards, a recognised assessor qualification such as TAQA or CAVA.

• Have strong organisational, communication and report-writing skills.

• Be confident using digital systems and assessment platforms.

• Have the right to work in the UK and be willing to travel where required.

Desirable Experience


Previous experience as an assessor, trainer, mentor or quality assurer would be advantageous, as would experience of apprenticeship delivery or End-Point Assessment.


Experience of Learning Management Systems, digital authoring tools and learning technologies is desirable, together with relevant assessor or quality assurance qualifications.

Additional Requirements


Successful applicants will be required to attend induction and standardisation activities before conducting EPA activity and participate in ongoing standardisation events throughout the year.


Associates are expected to maintain and evidence up-to-date occupational competence, comply with AIM's Internal and External Quality Assurance requirements, maintain accurate assessment records and undertake training in work-based assessment methods where previous assessment experience is not held.

Additional Information


AIM will provide assessment guidance, assessment materials to support assessors in carrying out End-Point Assessment activities.


Assessments are conducted through a Project with Presentation and Questioning and a Professional Discussion underpinned by a Portfolio of Evidence, allowing apprentices to demonstrate their digital learning design knowledge, skills and occupational competence through real workplace practice.


Ongoing training, moderation and standardisation activities form part of the role to ensure consistency, reliability and quality of assessment decisions. All assessment methods will be recorded for moderation and quality assurance purposes.
