The Active Wellbeing Society (TAWS) is an independent community benefit society which works with some of the poorest communities in Birmingham to improve people’s health and wellbeing through physical activity.

The Active Wellbeing Society is a Community Benefit Society, which means that it is controlled by its membership (users, communities, partners and stakeholders) and cannot use surpluses to anything other than community benefit. All assets are “locked” for the benefit of the communities that TAWS serves. It has charitable purposes and is treated as a charity by HMRC.

 

The Society was developed out of the successful Wellbeing Service set up by Birmingham City Council in June 2015, it is a public service mutual. It has a track record of innovation, collaboration, citizen engagement and successful delivery, within the Council, and by going independent in 2018, TAWS was able to build on this foundation and unlock new sources of funding to support its further growth and development. 

Main duties

  1. Work closely with Active Essex and Essex County Council to ensure the successful delivery of the Essex Pedal Power programmes across Essex.
  2. Work closely with the Business development and Funding team to ensure communities have access to a range of services and programmes.
  3. Work closely with Active Essex and TAWS communications teams to undertake effective communication with stakeholders, and partners.
  4. Play a key role in the monitoring and evaluation plan, through collecting, analysing and sharing data (quantitative and qualitative) working with the Active Essex Evaluation Researcher for Essex Pedal Power, The Active Wellbeing Society (TAWS) Data & Insight team and Essex County Council.
  5. Manage and monitor the project budgets with finance representatives from TAWS and Active Essex and support the relationship management with existing funders and the identification of potential funders.
  6. Management of all resources and supplier relationships.
  7. Oversight of all recruitment and staff requisitions ensuring compliance with TAWS safer recruitment policy.
  8. Allocation of staffing across all projects ensuring project delivery.
  9. Oversight of project governance and contract compliance ensuring all issues are raised with TAWS Senior Leadership team.
  10. Ensure that all health and safety requirements are understood by staff and complied with on a consistent basis; lead the development of a risk management culture to ensure that innovation and delivery is balanced with citizen safety. 
  11. Any other duties required to complete the role successfully.

  6. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage your time effectively.
  7. Experience in managing budgets, forecasting spend and reporting.    
  8. Experience in managing projects and contract compliance.
