Salary: £26,000 - £29,000 per annum DOE

Location: Hybrid to include Tyseley, Birmingham and homeworking

Contract type: 6 month Fixed term contract

Hours: 36.5 per week working Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm

An exciting position has arisen for a Finance Officer to work for a community benefit society to provide year-end and on-going support to the finance team for up to six months.

Main duties

This position will offer variation covering many duties within Finance.

  1. You will have responsibility for key aspects of financial and management reporting and control to deliver timely and reliable reporting.
  2. You will assist the current Assistant Management Accountant, Purchase Ledger Clerk and Payroll Assistant on a daily basis. 
  3. The post-holder will, on a regular basis, liaise directly with each finance team member and report to the Head of Finance.
  4. Assist in the sales ledger, which involves verifying orders and updating the finance system (Accounts IQ). Additionally sending out relevant invoices via email or accessing customer portals.
  5. Assist the purchase ledger, including matching invoices with purchase orders and obtaining approvals from relevant managers. This information is then recorded in Accounts IQ. Also onboarding new suppliers in Accounts IQ and verifying bank details.
  6. Perform credit control checks.
  7. Assist with the monthly payroll cycle.
  8. Input month-end journal entries.
  9. Conduct bank reconciliations.
  10. Assisting with month-end management accounts and reporting.
  11. Assist in analysing the Profit and Loss accounts.
  12. Assist with Balance Sheet reconciliations.
  13. Support year-end audit.
  14. Any ad-hoc tasks.
  15. Provide timely responses to internal and external stakeholders and deal with queries in a timely manner.
  16. Adhere to the deliverables timetable, and maintaining a strong working relationship with the senior leadership team. 

Knowledge, skills and experience

  1. At least 2 years experience in a similar finance role
  2. Experience with month and year end experience and procedures
  3. Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Payroll experience
  4. Experience of managing multiple deadlines with a track record of delivering under pressure
  5. Good communication skills – written and verbal
  6. Intermediate to Advanced Excel knowledge
  7. A knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook and Word in particular) to an intermediate level
  8. Microsoft Teams
  9. Degree educated in Finance
  10. Strong ability to plan ahead and manage multiple priorities effectively
  11. Ideally you will be AAT qualified.
  12. Studying towards a professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA), but this is not essential.
