Job Description Summary

We are seeking a proactive and technically minded Senior Manufacturing Engineering Technician to support the performance, reliability and continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment, facilities and processes. This is a hands-on role that combines maintenance coordination, technical problem-solving, facilities support and data-driven improvement activities within a highly regulated medical device manufacturing environment.


Working closely with Manufacturing Engineers and cross-functional teams, you will take ownership of preventive maintenance programmes, support equipment troubleshooting and root cause investigations, coordinate facilities activities and lead measurement system analysis projects, including Gauge R&R studies. This role offers an excellent opportunity to make a significant impact on manufacturing performance, equipment reliability and operational efficiency.


This role will be working the PM shift of 2pm to 10pm, Monday to Friday.

Job Responsibilities

Manufacturing Engineering Support
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Engineers and cross-functional teams to support manufacturing equipment, processes and projects.
  • Provide technical support for equipment faults, breakdowns and manufacturing issues.
  • Assist with equipment setup, data collection, technical measurements and reporting activities.
  • Support the development and maintenance of engineering procedures, work instructions and technical documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to Manufacturing Technicians and other colleagues where appropriate.


Preventive Maintenance and Facilities Management
  • Take ownership of the Manufacturing Engineering preventive maintenance programme.
  • Plan, coordinate and monitor maintenance activities to ensure work is completed on time and recorded in accordance with quality requirements.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities with internal stakeholders and external service providers.
  • Support the management, maintenance and improvement of manufacturing facilities and infrastructure.
  • Assist with facilities improvement initiatives and maintenance projects.
  • Maintain inventories of engineering spare parts, tools and equipment, ensuring critical items are available when required.
  • Maintain engineering workshops and work areas in line with 6S and workplace organisation principles.


Measurement Systems and Continuous Improvement
  • Plan, coordinate and execute Measurement System Analysis (MSA) activities, including Gauge R&R studies.
  • Analyse measurement data and prepare technical reports to support decision-making.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering and Quality teams to identify and implement improvements.
  • Lead or support continuous improvement projects focused on equipment reliability, process capability and operational efficiency.
  • Apply structured problem-solving techniques to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.


Quality, Compliance and Safety
  • Support root cause investigations and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Ensure all work is completed in compliance with the Quality Management System.
  • Follow and promote Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records and documentation.
  • Support a culture of quality, compliance, safety and continuous improvement across the site.

Required Education & Experience

  • SVQ/NVQ Level 3, Level 3 vocational qualification in Engineering or a practical technical discipline, IVQ Technician Diploma, IVQ Advanced Technician Diploma, or equivalent engineering qualification; or
  • Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience within manufacturing, engineering, maintenance or facilities support at technician level.
  • Demonstrable experience in preventive maintenance, technical support or equipment troubleshooting.
  • Experience within a highly regulated manufacturing environment, ideally medical devices, would be advantageous.
  • Experience with Gauge R&R studies and Measurement System Analysis techniques is highly desirable.
  • Experience coordinating contractors, service providers or maintenance activities would be beneficial.
  • Experience supporting or leading continuous improvement activities.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across Engineering, Quality and Manufacturing functions.
  • Competent in the use of hand tools, workshop equipment and measurement instruments.

  • Ability to coach and support less experienced colleagues.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, compliance and continuous improvement.

Working Environment

  • Work across manufacturing, workshop, facilities and cleanroom environments.
  • Wear and comply with all required cleanroom gowning and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
  • Handle tools, equipment, spare parts and maintenance components safely in accordance with manual handling requirements.
  • Occasionally support activities outside normal working hours, including maintenance shutdowns or facilities projects where required.
  • May occasionally work in restricted-access areas or at height, subject to appropriate training and risk assessments.
