Opportunity Profile

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team, supporting the delivery of innovative energy and water efficiency upgrades. In this role, you will collaborate with Senior and Lead Engineers on project delivery, contributing to high-quality design and technical solutions aligned with industry best practices. You will take ownership of single-discipline projects, with development opportunities for increased responsibility.


Key tasks include producing design data and sizing calculations for low carbon technologies such as GSHP, ASHP, district heating systems, and solar PV. You will also be involved in the design of electrical systems, including low-voltage distribution, lighting, fire alarm systems, and BMS controls. This role requires hands-on experience with industry standards, tools like AutoCAD LT, Revit, and Trimble (Amtech), as well as engagement with DNOs for connection applications.

Key Tasks

Produce design data and sizing calculations for projects, including:

  • GSHP and ASHP systems
  • District and Communal Heating Systems
  • Solar PV
  • Other low carbon technologies 

Design electrical systems taken from a concept level of design through to detailed design

  • Low voltage electrical distribution from incoming supply through to final circuit to BS7671.
  • Artificial Lighting and Emergency lighting to CIBSE SLL guides.
  • Small power and fixed power (including external/remote Feeder Pillars)
  • Fire Alarm and detection.
  • Structured cabling for ICT, BMS and Controls
  • Cable Management Systems (Cable Containment)
  • Metering and Energy Monitoring
  • BMS and Controls (Under guidance of internal specialist)
  • Lightning Protection System Risk Assessment and Requirements

Other

  • Produce BS7671 Cable Calculations utilising CIBSE approved design calculations Software
  • Produce Schematics, Single Line Diagrams and Layout drawings using AutoCAD LT and Revit
  • Carry out technical surveys in domestic and/or commercial properties for energy or water efficiency related upgrades.
  • Produce Survey Reports, Technical Reports and Specifications documentation
  • Engage with DNOs for Applications for connections (Import and Export)
  • Participate in QA reviews
  • Assist in developing of internal Quality Control templates, calculations, schedules, specifications and reports.
  • Carry out electrical calculations, Software based and manual.
  • Maintain ongoing CPD record.
  • Ensure quality and on-time delivery is met within engineering projects.
  • Ensure all aspects of new and ongoing projects are in line with up-to-date best practice industry standards.
  • Actively engage with CPD activities (including assisting team to arrange to help fill knowledge gaps)

Compliance

  • To ensure understanding of the Cenergist quality and environmental management systems and to work according to their requirements.  
  • To be aware of the environmental aspects and impacts relevant to the work of as well as ensuring compliance with any environmental and Building Regulations legislation that is applicable to the job. 
  • Ensure all Cenergist activities are GDPR compliant.  

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree (BEng/MEng) in Electrical Engineering or Building Services.
  • Working towards becoming Incorporated Engineer (IEng) with IET (Institute of Engineering and Technology) or CIBSE (Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers). Chartered Status will be encouraged and supported through development program.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience working in the Electrical engineering/Energy industry.
  • Good IT skills, particularly MS Office (Excel and Word).

About You

  • Proven experience in engineering or energy analysis, with a strong focus on electrical power distribution design.
  • Ability to interpret design information, including PIDs and schematics, with a solid understanding of system design.
  • Knowledge of renewable and low-carbon technologies, such as GSHP, ASHP, Solar PV, battery storage, and CHP/grid parallel connections.
  • Experience with building and plantroom surveys (development available for the right candidate).
  • Exposure to both commercial and domestic building services electrical systems design (development provided if needed).
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Trimble (Amtech) software for electrical cable calculations.
  • Familiarity with Revit software for design work.
  • Experience with BMS/Controls system design is an advantage, with development support offered if required.
  • Eager to learn and grow within the role, with a passion for high-quality engineering solutions.
