Their focus on sustainable building practices has made Whitebox a leader in developing environmentally conscious infrastructure, aiming to create structures that leave a lasting positive impact on communities and the environment

Role Overview.

Whitebox is seeking a skilled Construction Site Manager to oversee Solar Tree projects, a cutting-edge innovation focused on installing solar canopies within retail car parks across the UK. The initial contract runs from January 2025 to mid-March 2025, with potential extensions through May based on project requirements.

There is also an opportunity for a permanent role as the project scales nationally. This position is ideal for a candidate with extensive site management experience, particularly in complex, live environments, where logistics, safety, and public interaction are crucial.

Key Responsibilities

The Construction Site Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the Solar Tree installations are executed smoothly and efficiently. Specific duties include:

Project Oversight and Logistics.

  • Manage daily construction activities on-site, including scheduling, resource allocation, and ensuring compliance with quality standards.

  • Organise utility trenching operations and oversee work in live environments, managing logistics to minimize disruption in active retail and car park settings.

  • Lead efforts to coordinate subcontractors and suppliers to meet project milestones and deadlines effectively.

  • Manage the interfaces with the store operations and electrical connections and ensure the workspace is booked and down time or approvals are well planned and executed.

Electrical and Solar Installation.

  • Supervise the installation of solar canopies, ensuring they meet safety and quality standards. Responsibilities include coordinating connections to the store's main power distribution panel, or the local electrical grid as required.

  • Oversee low-voltage (LV) and high-voltage (HV) cabling as part of the canopy installation, ensuring all electrical systems meet industry standards.

  • Experience with photovoltaic (PV) systems and EV charger installations is highly desirable, as the project may involve these additional technologies.

Team Leadership and Safety Management.

  • Ensure adherence to Whitebox’s rigorous safety protocols, especially in high-traffic, live environments.

  • Direct site teams, promoting a collaborative culture and maintaining high morale and productivity among all on-site personnel.

  • Maintain safety standards and regulatory compliance, managing risks proactively and implementing preventive measures to protect both workers and the public.

Client and Stakeholder Communication.

  • Act as the primary on-site representative for Whitebox, maintaining clear communication with clients and stakeholders.

  • Provide regular progress reports to clients and company leadership, highlighting key achievements, addressing challenges, and documenting any changes to the project scope.

Risk and Quality Management.

  • Identify potential project risks, develop contingency plans, and actively manage issues to prevent delays or disruptions.

  • Ensure that all work adheres to Whitebox’s quality standards, from materials and workmanship to final project inspection and client handover

Preferred Qualification

Whitebox seeks a candidate with a background in site management, particularly in utilities trenching and electrical systems relevant to PV installations. The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Experience managing live work environments, specifically in retail and car parks, which require precise scheduling, safety considerations, and the ability to adapt to unforeseen circumstances.

  • Knowledge of LV and HV cabling and PV systems, with EV charger installation experience as an added asset.

  • Flexibility and willingness to travel nationally if selected for the extended, permanent role.
