Description

Adventure Staff is responsible for providing safe, engaging, and Christ-centered recreational experiences for campers and retreat guests. Adventure staff lead and assist with a variety of outdoor and adventure activities, including the challenge course, zipline, target sports, canoeing, team building, and seasonal aquatics. This position combines instruction, safety management, equipment care, and positive camper interaction. Reports directly to the Activities Manager.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Lead and facilitate assigned camp activities in a safe, enthusiastic, and encouraging manner.
  • Provide clear instructions and demonstrations for campers before and during activities.
  • Maintain constant supervision and follow all camp safety procedures and emergency protocols.
  • Inspect activity areas and equipment before use and report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Properly use, maintain, clean, and store activity equipment.
  • Enforce all activity-specific rules, safety standards, and participant requirements.
  • Adapt activities to accommodate different ages, abilities, skill levels, and comfort levels.
  • Encourage teamwork, confidence, sportsmanship, perseverance, and positive relationships among campers.
  • Model Christian character, servant leadership, respect, patience, and integrity.
  • Assist with camper transitions, scheduling, setup, cleanup, and other camp program responsibilities.
  • Respond appropriately to injuries, emergencies, weather concerns, and other safety situations.
  • Complete required inspections, incident reports, equipment logs, and other documentation.
  • Support other areas of camp as needed and assigned by camp leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must demonstrate a maturing faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; and confidently articulate that faith.
  • Must be personable, with a strongly developed servant heart and mind; ready always to put the needs of others ahead of their own.
  • Must be patient, hospitable, disarming, and a problem solver.
  • Ability to create and foster positive relationships with guests and team members.
  • Must have strong verbal communication skills in front of large audiences for safety briefings, team-building introductions, or debriefs for campers.
  • Must be professional, well-organized, and have a keen eye for details.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to manage time well.
  • Must be adaptable and comfortable working outdoors.
