Platform Technical Lead

We are seeking a Platform Technical Lead to spearhead the architecture, implementation, and evolution of a modern data platform for a leading specialty insurance firm in London. This role requires a strong technical background in integration and data architectures, as well as leadership experience managing both technical teams and client relationships.

You will be responsible for the design, governance, automation, and operation of the enterprise data platform, ensuring its capabilities align with business needs. The platform is built on Azure, Snowflake, Data Lakes, and Kafka, requiring expertise across security, data governance, integrations, observability, DevOps, and automation.

This is a London-based role, as regular on-site client engagement is required. The position will be hired by Marionete, a leader in delivering cutting-edge data and technology solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and lead the design of an enterprise-grade data platform, ensuring scalability, security, and performance.
• Provide technical leadership across data integration, data modeling, security, governance, and automation, covering all layers of a data platform (ingestion, storage, processing, and consumption).
• Drive the implementation of modern platform architectures such as Lakehouse, Kappa, and Lambda, ensuring alignment with industry best practices.
• Oversee end-to-end platform capabilities, including security, monitoring, observability, automation, and governance.
• Implement DevOps and automation practices, ensuring a highly available, resilient, and self-service platform for data engineers and consumers.
• Ensure seamless data ingestion and processing pipelines, leveraging Kafka, Fivetran, Snowflake, and Data Lakes.
• Define and enforce best practices for Data Governance, security, access control, and observability.
• Establish CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices for the data platform.
• Lead the technical direction and implementation of data products, ensuring they are efficiently delivered and aligned with business objectives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, DevOps engineers, architects, and governance teams, to enhance the platform’s capabilities.
• Establish and drive Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) best practices within the data platform environment.
• Work closely with stakeholders to define and execute a roadmap that balances business needs, compliance requirements, and technical innovation.
• Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and business teams, translating technical capabilities into business value.
• Lead and mentor large-scale technical teams, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Key Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as a Platform Technical Lead, Data Architect, or similar role, leading enterprise data platforms at scale.
• Strong technical expertise in Azure, AWS, Snowflake, Databricks, Data Lakes, and Kafka.
• Deep understanding of modern data platform architectures, including Lakehouse, Kappa, and Lambda.
• Experience designing and managing secure, scalable, and governed data platforms.
• Strong knowledge of Data Governance frameworks, access control, and compliance in enterprise environments.
• Experience with end-to-end data integration patterns and enterprise-grade data modeling.
• Knowledge of Data Fabric and Data Mesh concepts, with practical experience in their implementation.
• Strong understanding of Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) principles in a data platform context.
• Expertise in observability, monitoring, and security for data platforms.
• Strong experience in DevOps, automation, CI/CD, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC).
• Proven track record of leading large technical teams and driving complex data platform initiatives.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate technical solutions into business value.
