Job Description

The Maintenance Operative participates in the day-to-day maintenance of designated gardens and is directed by the Team Leader. Responsibilities include carrying out various garden tasks as requested, care of equipment and tools, and following instructions as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year experience in residential garden maintenance/soft landscaping, or a combination of transferable skills, love of working outdoors and keenness to learn & progress.
  • A basic knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in garden maintenance operations, standard horticultural practices (planting, pruning, fertilising, etc.) and growth characteristics and identification of a wide variety of plants
  • Basic first aid certificate or greater
  • Desirable: horticultural qualifications
  • Desirable: PA1 & PA6 spraying certificates.
  • Desirable: Drivers Licence.
  • Physical aptitude to working outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions - physical demands include lifting and carrying, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, kneeling and repetitive motion.
  • Ability to take and follow instructions.
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Great cooperation and team skills
  • High levels of ethical conduct, including timekeeping and attendance
  • Able to work autonomously.

Non-exhaustive task list

  • Ensure that the appearance of our client’s gardens meet or exceed expectations and that RSL’s goals of excellent client service are always achieved.
  • Communicate regularly with the Maintenance Team Leader regarding day-to-day maintenance operations including reporting any unusual conditions.
  • Carry out maintenance tasks as requested in the most efficient and timely manner.
  • ·Comply with all RSL policies and health and safety procedures as appropriate and encourage others to follow them.
  • Care for assigned equipment and notify the Maintenance Team Leader of any required repairs.
  • Maintain effective employee, client and public relations.
  • Log own timesheets/hours and absenteeism on relevant employee online portals.
  • Any other duties assigned by the Maintenance Team Leader.
