About the Role

BCCOHP is seeking a permanent, full-time Director, Professional Practice. This position will report to the Executive Director, Regulation. 


The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and leading the Professional Practice Team for BCCOHP including Quality Assurance, Sedation and Non-Hospital Dental Facilities and the Oral Health Professional Advisors. The position works collaboratively across multiple functions such as Policy, Planning & People Development (PPP), Strategic Engagement & Communications, and the other regulatory functions. 


This role supports the Executive Director, Regulation and PPP department to ensure the development, review and maintenance of up-to-date standards and quality assurance for all oral health professionals.

Essential Duties

Regulatory 

  • Attend meetings of National regulatory bodies, contributing to the establishment of National competencies, and liaising with accrediting and credentialling agencies as needed in order to provide appropriate reporting mechanisms to the BCCOHP Board.
  • Work with the Executive Director, Regulation and Executive Director, PPP in the maintenance of up-to-date standards for oral health professionals which are kept under review, reflect up-to-date practice and legislation and prioritize patient and service user centred care and safety.
  • Work with the Executive Director, Regulation and Executive Director, PPP in the provision of guidance to help oral health professionals apply standards and help ensure this guidance is up to date, addresses emerging areas of risk, and prioritizes patient and service user centred care and safety, including addressing diverse needs arising from patient-centred care.
  • Work with the Executive Director, Regulation in overseeing the the review, development, monitoring and measuring of the Quality Assurance Program(s).
  • Work with the Executive Director, Regulation in the assessment of non-hospital surgical facilities including assessment and certification of sedation providers.
  • Oversee the department’s team of oral health professional advisors.
  • Provide collaborative support for the Standards and Guidance, Sedation and GA, and Quality Assurance committees.
  • Oversight of the current four QAPs from the legacy colleges.
  • Oversight of registrant certification processes for the provision of sedation and general anaesthetic services.
  • Oversight of the assessment processes for determining registrant compliance with non-hospital dental facility requirements for the provision of sedation and general anaesthetic services. 
  • Ensure department practices in maintaining confidentiality of both hardcopy and electronic files.
  • Oversee the processing of departmental statistical information for the purpose of reporting regulatory performance to the Board or in the Annual Report.
  • Supporting the preparation of an annual budget for areas of responsibility. 


Team Management and Leadership

  • Provide leadership, management, mentorship and supervision of the professional practice team, including leads in Quality Assurance, Professional Practice, Sedation and non-hospital surgical facilities, and the professional advisors.
  • Ensure each member of the professional practice staff team is provided with performance reviews and planning.
  • Focus on developing team members.


Stakeholder Accountability

  • Attend BCCOHP Board Meetings and Annual Meeting as necessary.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum seven years of experience working in similar role in regulatory or similar environment in a leadership position.
  • Experience successfully building, developing, and managing a high performing team.
  • Skilled manager of relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Excellent judgment, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple deadline-driven projects.
  • Understanding the importance of process and attention to details.
  • Strategic, tactful, and an authentic leader who is able to influence at the functional and organizational levels. 
  • Experience in developing and monitoring budgets.
  • Exceptional writing skills with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to think in innovative ways.
  • Proficient-to-advanced skills with MS Office suite.

Work Arrangement

Work Hours

BCCOHP's regular hours of business are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. This is a full-time permanent position, requiring 35 hours per week (7 hours per day).


Flexibility

BCCOHP offers flexibility for a hybrid work arrangement depending on the role and operational needs. The number of days required to be in office for this position is dependent on operational needs and workload.


We also offer core work hours between 9:30 am - 2:30 pm. The successful candidate may adjust their work day as long as they are working within the set core work hours, and depending on operational needs.

Total Compensation & Perks

The successful candidate will be offered a competitive compensation and benefits package. The annual salary range for this position is $125,700 to $167,600. The salary offered will be determined based on factors such as experience relative to the requirements of the role.
