The Inpatient Unit (IPU) Manager reports into the Deputy Director of Clinical Services and is responsible for leading the operational management of the inpatient nursing team and contribute to the delivery of the hospice strategy. The IPU Manager will work in close partnership with Clinical Services leaders to achieve a high quality of service in line with Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards of care and requirements.

 

The IPU Manager will be a visible and approachable leader who clearly demonstrates the Hospice’s vision, values and service equity at all times. The IPU Manager will utilise their highly competent nursing skills to provide expert care of patients and their families and carers. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and to supervise, where necessary, more junior nursing staff.

Knowledge and Experience

Qualifications

Essential

·        Registered Nurse (Degree/Masters level) 

·        Current NMC Registration 

·        Willingness to undertake additional study as required

Desirable

·        Management qualification

·        Palliative care qualification

·        Teaching and mentoring qualification

·        Advanced clinical practitioner


Knowledge and experience

Essential

·        Minimum 5 years post registration experience

·        Strong evidence of change management

·        Experience of managing staff at a senior level

·        Quality and audit practice

·        Knowledge of Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulations and expectations for hospices.

·        Lead in challenging situations, both clinically and managerially

·        Excellent record keeping with data analysis, report writing and presentation skills

·        Ability to motivate and develop staff

Desirable

·        Experience in a hospice environment

·        Experience in HR practice

·        Workforce development
