WHAT WE NEED

Port of Aberdeen has a fantastic opportunity for a positive and proactive Port Operator in this exciting time of growth. The successful candidates will have great work ethic, a can do attitude, and values that align to the mission of the port in delivering operational excellence to our customers in a safe and sustainable way.


 Key Responsibilities

  • Driving and operating port vehicles and machinery.
  • Undertake key port functions and operations.
  • Contribute to a great safety culture to continually achieve zero harm.
  • Assist and support the Operations team and Dock Control Officers in service delivery.
  • Effectively communicate and problem solve to help deliver operational excellence.
  • Assist in the vessel load/discharge process and plan and manage quayside movements.
  • Provide an active role in supervision of the Harbour Security provider and ensuring compliance with International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS).

Interested? We are looking for someone who has:

  • A good understanding of port operations, ideally container and general cargo handling including stevedoring, freight operations, slinging and lifting, and telehandler experience.
  • A keen desire to build upon and further develop current skills within the port environment, predominately in landside operations.
  • A sound knowledge of Health and Safety process, and a proactive approach to ensuring safety.
  • Good communication skills and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to carry out work effectively both individually and within a team, in a demanding environment.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Although there is the opportunity for additional training, ideally you should already have plant experience and a valid forklift licence.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts to suit the operational needs of the business, including nights and weekends.


Desirable Criteria:

  • Trailer licence
  • Forklift licence
  • Mooring experience
  • Hygiene course certification
  • IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH general certification etc.
  • Desire to make a difference and challenge the status quo.


Salary and hours

Salary £38,955 per annum.

Average 42 hours per week. Working a rota of 12 hour shifts including day shift, night shift and weekends.
