ABOUT THE JOB

We're looking for a Systems Engineer to join our North American Engineering team, where you'll play a key role in delivering innovative SCADA and industrial control systems projects for a diverse range of clients.


Working as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team, you'll be responsible for the design, development, integration, and commissioning of control system solutions. You'll work closely with fellow engineers, project managers, and clients to deliver high-quality projects, applying your expertise in technologies such as SCADA, PLCs, industrial communications, and ISA standards.


Beyond project delivery, you'll have the opportunity to mentor and support Junior Systems Engineers, contribute to technical planning and estimating for new projects, and build strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and stakeholders. Salary - up to C$95,000 depending on skills and experience.

SUMMARY OF ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

You will:

  • Create, review and/or approve project documentation, including system architectures, designs, specifications, test plans, and quality documentation to meet client requirements.
  • Analyse and translate client requirements into functional and non-functional specifications independently or as a part of a larger team, whilst checking against any compliance standards. 
  • Be accountable for the system testing and validation routines to verify that systems meet design specifications.
  • Lead technical discussions with the project teams and identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Manage technical work packages within a project, assigning and monitoring tasks and task progress within the delivery team.
  • Coordinate the testing and troubleshooting of bespoke systems.
  • Plan and lead commissioning at client sites.
  • Deliver/perform client acceptance testing, both remotely and on-site, where applicable. Comfortable running test procedures with clients.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship and technical guidance to the team, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
  • Support the maintenance and/or development of client relationships, this includes being the technical lead in project meetings with clients.
  • Work with the project manager to ensure successful delivery of projects by managing technical deliverables and quality gates in the delivery process, raising any issues and risks that arise within a project.
  • Provide accurate and regular reporting of technical delivery, highlighting successes, failures and recovery plans.
  • Identify unacceptable and challenging behaviours, escalating when appropriate.
  • Follow all health and safety regulations, procedures and protocols.
  • Be responsible for overall delivery of project scopes to company quality management system, processes and procedures.
  • Assist with any other duties reasonably requested and in line with the requirements of the post and deputise for the Project Manager.

SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for:


Experience and Knowledge

  • Experience in PLC software development (Ideally Rockwell, Siemens, Beckhoff or Mitsubishi platforms).
  • Experience in SCADA software development (Ideally with Ignition, Cimplicity, Wonderware, WinCC or FactoryTalk View).
  • An understanding of control systems hardware configuration, including rack layouts, power consumption considerations, networking set up, VSDs.
  • Experience with commissioning control systems solutions with an ability to work safely and independently on clients manufacturing sites.
  • Experience in the application of systems engineering principles and methodologies.


Skills and Abilities

  • Good verbal, written and presentation skills for effective collaboration and client interaction
  • Demonstrated ability for problem solving, troubleshooting, fault finding and fixing/resolving technical issues in operational/production environments.
