Expression of Interest - Strength & Conditioning Internship

Intetrnship Purpose

To support the Yorkshire County Cricket Club's Strength & Conditioning team in the delivery of high-quality physical preparation and athletic development services across the men's, women's squads, and junior cricket pathways, while developing the knowledge, practical skills and professional behaviours required of an aspiring S&C practitioner.


The internship will provide experience across:

·      Senior professional men's and women’s squads

·      Boys and Girls Academy and EPP programmes

·      County age-group pathway squads (U12-U16)

·      Training and match-day environments

·      Physical testing, monitoring and player profiling

·      Applied research and performance data

·      The wider multidisciplinary Science & Medicine team


Duration: 1st November 2026 – 30th September 2027

Hours: Approximately 10 hours per week in off-season period (Nov-Mar). The hours would vary in-season (Apr-Sep).

Responsibilities

During the internship, you will be expected to:

  • Support S&C coaches with the delivery of physical preparation sessions across the men's, women's and pathway programmes.
  • Develop an understanding of the physical demands of cricket across different playing levels and age groups.
  • Observe and assist coaches with the delivery of age-appropriate strength, conditioning and athletic development programmes.
  • Support in-season training and match day preparation which may include assisting with training day and match day warm ups where required.
  • Support the S&C team with analysis and presentation of relevant performance information.
  • Where appropriate, undertake an undergraduate or Master's dissertation using relevant Club data.*
  • Participate in relevant internal CPD and educational opportunities. Specific sessions around UKSCA assessment will be delivered to interns.

 

*Access to player data will be subject to the Club's approval processes, ethical requirements, player consent where applicable, confidentiality agreements and data-protection policies. Access to data is not guaranteed and will depend on the nature and approval of the proposed project.

Learning & Development Opportunities

Subject to course requirements and Club resources, the interns will have opportunities to:

·     Gain practical experience in Physical Profiling and develop familiarity with performance monitoring equipment and procedures (ForceDecks, Catapult GPS, Output).

·     Observe experienced professional S&C coaches working with elite athletes.

·      Support with the delivery of S&C sessions across different age groups.

·      Develop practical coaching and communication skills.

·      Gain practical experience of testing, monitoring and profiling athletes.

·      Develop an understanding of cricket-specific physical preparation.

·     Learn how S&C integrates with physiotherapy, medical, sports science and coaching staff.

·      Attend relevant internal CPD opportunities.

·      Receive informal mentoring and feedback from members of the S&C team.

·     Develop an applied research project using relevant player or performance data, where approved.

·      Gain experience of working within a professional sporting organisation.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Currently enrolled on a BSc/MSc degree in Sport & Exercise Science, Strength & Conditioning or related discipline.
  • Enhanced DBS and Safeguarding & Protecting Children (provided by us if not held)


Desirable

·      Previous coaching experience in any sport

·      Interest or experience in applied sport science research / data science

·      Driving License

·      First Aid Qualification
