Heritage Manager (Yorkshire Cricket Foundation) - 12 month Fixed Term Contract

Role Purpose

The Heritage Manager will lead the development and activation of Yorkshire Cricket Foundation’s heritage programme, working with others to ensure that Yorkshire cricket’s heritage is preserved, accessible and used to support community, educational and organisational objectives.


The role will establish the foundations of a sustainable heritage programme through improved collections management, community engagement, partnerships, fundraising, volunteering and storytelling.


This is a development role focused on creating the structures, relationships and evidence base required to inform the long-term future of heritage delivery within Yorkshire Cricket Foundation.

Key Responsibilities

1. Heritage Strategy and Programme Development

  • Lead delivery of agreed Heritage Strategy priorities.
  • Develop a practical delivery plan, milestones and measures of impact.
  • Establish appropriate processes for monitoring outcomes and learning.
  • Identify opportunities for future heritage programme development.
  • Provide recommendations on the future operating model for heritage.

 

2. Collections, Museum and Governance

  • Support improved stewardship, documentation and governance of heritage collections.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to progress collection management priorities, including asset transfer arrangements where required.
  • Support progress towards appropriate museum standards and accreditation requirements.
  • Develop opportunities to improve access, interpretation and visitor experience.
  • Identify priorities for future collections development and investment.

 

3. Community and Education Engagement

  • Develop and deliver heritage-led community and education activity.
  • Work with schools, community groups and volunteers to increase engagement.
  • Embed heritage activity within wider Yorkshire Cricket Foundation programmes.
  • Capture and evaluate participation, impact and learning.

 

4. Partnerships and Funding

  • Build relationships with heritage organisations, community partners, funders and other stakeholders.
  • Identify appropriate funding opportunities.
  • Support the development of grant applications and funding proposals.
  • Develop partnerships that increase reach, impact and sustainability.

 

5. Volunteers and Digital Engagement

  • Establish and support a sustainable heritage volunteer network.
  • Create appropriate structures, guidance and opportunities for volunteer involvement.
  • Develop digital storytelling and interpretation opportunities.
  • Improve accessibility and reach of heritage content.

 

6. Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

  • Ensure heritage activity reflects the diversity of Yorkshire cricket and its communities.
  • Identify and amplify underrepresented stories and experiences.
  • Work collaboratively with communities to support inclusive heritage activity.

Essential Experience

  • Experience delivering heritage, museum, archive, cultural or community engagement projects.
  • Experience developing and managing projects from concept through to delivery.
  • Experience building partnerships and working with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting or managing volunteers.
  • Strong organisational, communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and establish new programmes or ways of working.
  • Commitment to inclusive practice and community engagement. 


Desirable Experience

  • Museum Accreditation knowledge.
  • Collections management experience.
  • Experience with heritage funding, including National Lottery Heritage Fund applications.
  • Experience working within sport, culture or charitable organisations.
  • Experience developing exhibitions, interpretation or digital heritage content.
  • Interest in or enthusiasm for the power of Yorkshire Cricket heritage to engage communities.

Strategy and Governance

  • Establish a clear Heritage Action Plan aligned with an agreed Heritage Strategy.
  • Help establish and support an effective Heritage Working Group.
  • Provide recommendations for the future heritage operating model.


Collections and Museum

  • Improve understanding, documentation and governance of heritage collections.
  • Support progress towards sustainable museum and collections management arrangements, including Accreditation.
  • Identify priorities for future investment and development.


Community Impact

  • Re-establish a programme of heritage engagement activity.
  • Develop new opportunities with schools, communities and volunteers.
  • Demonstrate increased reach and engagement with diverse audiences.


Partnerships and Sustainability

  • Establish a network of relevant heritage and community partnerships, with agreed priorities for future collaboration.
  • Develop a pipeline of funding opportunities and identify priority applications for future delivery.
  • Identify future income and sustainability options.


Organisational Impact

  • Increase visibility and understanding of heritage across Yorkshire Cricket Foundation and Yorkshire County Cricket Club.
  • Demonstrate the contribution heritage can make to community engagement, education and inclusion objectives.
