APC wishes to appoint a EHS Officer 1 to be part of our dynamic and growing organisation


About the team


Our EHS Team is expanding, in line with our organisational growth and who will work closely together to help ensure a safe working environment at APC and VLE, both in our laboratories and offices.


Role Purpose


Supporting the organisation in maintaining a safe workplace according to legal standards, fostering and further developing our culture of pride in safety and personal ownership to achieve ‘Best in Class Safety’ and ‘First in Class Compliance’. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and assessment of hazardous and unsafe situations, and the development of measures to ensure focus is on prevention.


Key responsibilities


Policy & Risk Management


  • Support EHS Lead to ensure the organisation meets its statutory obligations in all EHS areas and supports the fostering of a safe workplace environment without risk to health.
  • Support the development and implementation of EHS policies, procedures and programmes across the organisation.
  • Ensure that all EHS policies, procedures and programmes are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated.
  • Responsible for the completion and regular review of risk assessments and implementation of findings where appropriate
  • Support on preventive measures to ensure the business is engaged in implementing such measures and also in support of future Technical Operations projects.
  • Ensure that all incidents are documented, investigated and recommended improvements implemented. Responsible for EHS logs and CAPA tracking. Support and co-ordinate adverse event reporting.


Audit Readiness & Continuous Improvement


  • Provide subject matter expertise to the organisation on various EHS related topics.
  • Co-ordinate the internal EHS audits and ensure that internal auditors are supported accordingly.
  • Support any external EHS audits with co-ordination of audit activities and action plans.
  • Complete GEMBA walks in laboratories
  • Ensure compliance of EHS, generate and use metrics to measure compliance and assess EHS data across the organisation.
  • Support EHS inspections, risk assessment and lone working procedures and ensuring that employees are aware of their responsibilities.
  • Conduct and support EHS training and ensure accurate EHS training records are maintained.
  • Improve awareness of EHS across the organisation.
  • Adhere to and improve business processes as required.


Collaboration & Engagement

 

  • Share information, suggestions and observations to create consistency in EHS standards across the organisation.
  • Support and attend Safety Committee;
  • Manage the relationship with external vendors.
  • Participate in relevant forums and committees e.g. emergency response, QMS/SMS, training, lab safety etc. as required.
  • Prepare and deliver training materials to colleagues.


Qualifications


  • Degree level or equivalent in life sciences; and/or
  • Degree level or equivalent in Occupational Safety & Health (science focus).


Experience


  • Experience in Occupational Health and/or Environmental Health and Safety.
  • At least two years’ experience working in the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry or R&D and/or laboratory environment, would be an advantage.


Skills & Knowledge


  • Ability to work autonomously or as part of a diverse team.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent technical writing skills.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office.
  • Working knowledge of factors impacting on health and well-being and of EHS regulatory compliance including auditing.
  • Competence in using laboratory equipment would be an advantage.
