Quality and Welding Engineer

The Quality & Welding Engineer is responsible for providing specialist technical assurance of welding, fabrication, and associated inspection activities across Enshore Subsea’s supply chain, assets, and projects.

The role acts as Enshore’s technical authority for weld quality, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and contractual requirements, while also supporting the wider Quality function through management system development, procedure updates, and continual improvement when not deployed on project-specific welding scopes.

The successful candidate must be willing to travel.

Welding & Fabrication Quality Assurance (Core Role)

• Authority to issue or co-sign Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) as required.
• Act as Enshore’s technical focal point for welding and fabrication quality.
• Review, technically assess, and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR/WPQR), and Welder Qualification Records in accordance with applicable standards (e.g. ISO 15614, ISO 9606, ASME IX where applicable).
• Verify welding documentation complies with contractual, regulatory, and client requirements.
• Witnessing inspections on behalf of Enshore per the supplier's Inspection and Test Plan (ITP).
• Hold point authorisation for ITP inspection (and escalation to Enshore's Quality / Assets / Engineering teams for significant findings).
• Provide welding quality input during tender, contract review, and project handover phases.
• Support definition of Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs) related to welding and fabrication.

Supplier & Sub-Contractor Assurance

• Conduct supplier and fabricator audits, assessments, and technical reviews focused on welding capability and quality systems.
• Verify supplier compliance with welding, fabrication, and inspection requirements (including ISO 3834 where applicable).
• Provide on-site welding surveillance and inspection at supplier facilities and during project mobilisation.
• Support procurement and engineering teams in evaluating welding capability during supplier selection.

Inspection, NDT & Technical Review

• Review and assess NDT procedures, techniques, and reports in line with project requirements and relevant standards.
• Verify that NDT activities are conducted by qualified and certified personnel in accordance with ISO 9712 or equivalent schemes.
• Review acceptance criteria, repair procedures, and defect assessments in liaison with Engineering where required.
• Interface with third-party inspection bodies and NDT contractors.

Project Quality Support

• Provide specialist welding QA/QC support to Enshore projects (EPCI, trenching, cable lay, asset builds).
• Support FATs, fabrication inspections, mobilisation readiness, and offshore/site quality activities where welding is in scope.
• Raise and manage welding-related Non-Conformances, concessions, and corrective actions.
• Support root cause analysis of welding and fabrication issues.

Quality Management System (QMS / IMS) Support

• Support the Quality Manager with development, review, and update of Quality procedures, particularly those related to fabrication, inspection, and supplier assurance.
• Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of the Enshore Quality Management System and Integrated Management System (IMS).
• Support document control, records management, and continual improvement activities.
• Assist with internal audits and management reviews as required.

• Review and approve WPS, WPQR/PQR, and welder qualifications.
• During site-work: Completion of weekly written reports detailing project progress, quality status, and any schedule or quality concerns observed.
• Review NDT procedures, certifications, and reports.
• Perform supplier audits and fabrication inspections.
• Support welding surveillance during fabrication and mobilisation.
• Manage welding-related NCRs and corrective actions.
• Draft and update quality and fabrication procedures.
• Support audits and management system activities.

Essential Qualifications 

• A bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, supplemented by professional certifications such as IWE or CWEng.
• Weld inspection experience (preferably CSWIP 3.2 qualified).
• Demonstrable experience reviewing and approving WPS, WPQR/PQR, and welder qualifications.
• Working knowledge of welding and fabrication standards (e.g. ISO 15614, ISO 9606, ISO 3834, ASME IX).
• Experience reviewing NDT documentation and reports.
• Familiarity with ISO 9712 and NDT certification schemes.

Desirable Qualifications or Equivalent Experience

• Internal or Lead Auditor training.
• Experience supporting EPCI, offshore construction, or subsea projects.
• Experience with supplier audits and fabrication surveillance.

• Welding QA/QC in engineering, fabrication, or offshore environments.
