Barrhead Travel are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Legal Counsel to assist with the increased volume of commercial contracts for our UK entities.
The role will report to our UK Legal Director based in Glasgow and will be a part time role of 3 days per week
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations. This role requires excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with various stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
· Drafting and Reviewing Contracts: Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts, including but not limited to commercial agreements, including non-disclosure agreements, supplier agreements, client agreements, service contracts, vendor agreements and independent contractor agreements to ensure they meet legal standards and company policies.
· Legal Compliance: Ensure all contracts comply with relevant UK laws and regulations, including data protection and travel industry-specific regulations.
· Risk Management: Identify potential legal risks in contract terms and propose solutions to mitigate such risks.
· Negotiation: Actively participate in negotiation processes with clients, vendors, and other parties to secure favourable terms for the company.
· Advisory Role: Provide legal advice and guidance to internal departments on contract-related matters and ensure all stakeholders understand contractual obligations and risks.
· Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all contracts and related documents.
· Dispute Resolution: Handle contract disputes and work towards achieving resolutions that are in the best interest of the company.
· Provide cover for UK Legal Director as and when required
Qualifications and Skills
· Educational Background: A law degree from a recognized university and qualification as a solicitor in Scotland holding or with the right to hold a practicing certificate.
· Experience: A minimum of 5 years post qualification experience preferably in an in-house role.
· Legal Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of UK contract law and relevant legal principles.
· Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
· Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts clearly.
· Negotiation Skills: Proven experience in negotiating contracts and managing disputes.
· Organisational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects efficiently.
· Professionalism: High level of professionalism and ethical standards.
· IT Proficiency: Competent in using legal research tools, contract management software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Desirable – experience of providing advice on contracts relating to the travel industry.
Work Environment
The role will be based in our Glasgow office 3 days per week for the duration of the probation period thereafter a minimum 2 days per week in the office.
