Middle PHP Backend Developer (Symfony)

Paybis is a global fintech company operating at the intersection of crypto and traditional payments. We hold a MiCA CASP authorisation and a Payment Institution (PSD2) licence in Latvia — one of a small group of companies in Europe holding both simultaneously — alongside FinCEN MSB and FINTRAC registrations.

As a Backend Developer, you will be responsible for building and maintaining backend services, contributing to system architecture, and ensuring high performance, scalability, and reliability of our products.

We are looking for a strong PHP engineer with solid backend experience, analytical thinking, and a proactive mindset, who is eager to grow and contribute to product development.

•  Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable PHP code
• Develop features end-to-end, from concept to production
• Refactor legacy code to improve stability and performance
• Identify bottlenecks, bugs, and implement effective solutions
• Write unit, integration, and functional tests
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering standards
• Collaborate with Developers, QA, DevOps, and Product teams
• Contribute to improving system architecture and scalability
• Participate in production support and on-call activities when required 

•  3+ years of experience in PHP backend development
• Strong experience with Symfony (v5/6)
• Experience with MySQL and Redis
• Experience with message brokers (e.g. RabbitMQ)
• Solid understanding of OOP, DDD, and design patterns
• Understanding of microservices / service-oriented architecture
• Experience writing unit, integration, and functional tests
• English sufficient for professional communication 

• Experience with AWS (SNS, SQS, DynamoDB, API Gateway, Lambda, ECS)
• Experience with payment integrations (card processing, PayPal, etc.)
• Experience with crypto or blockchain technologies
• DevOps experience (Terraform, Serverless)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools (GitLab, Jira, Docker)
