The Opportunity

The Yorkshire County Cricket Club (the Club) is looking for aspiring coaches to join our 24-month Cricket Coaching Internship beginning in November 2026.

With the fast growth of the women's game globally, nationally and, most notably across Yorkshire, the Club has identified an area of under-representation in elite female coaches. Coaching, especially at elite level, is male dominated with male coaches tending to historically had far better access to informal networks, existing pathways and role models within the men's game.

This internship programme has been designed to help build a coaching workforce that reflects the players it serves, and give talented women a real, structured route to the top of the game. Therefore, it is open for female applicants only.

The programme will promote inclusive practice and encourage applications from females from different backgrounds, experiences and communities.

Role Overview

This is a paid internship opportunity which is designed to support the development of aspiring female coaches by providing practical coaching experience, mentoring and learning opportunities within the Yorkshire Girls’ Performance Pathway. The role will help to create a positive pathway for female coaches to develop confidence, skills and experience.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your coaching skills while working alongside our Yorkshire High Performance coaches within the Performance Pathway. You'll gain hands on experience, receive regular mentoring and feedback, and build the confidence to coach in a performance environment.

During the internship, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Support and deliver coaching sessions across the Girls' Performance Pathway.
  • Learn from experienced High Performance coaches.
  • Develop your coaching, communication and leadership skills.
  • Build your knowledge of safeguarding, inclusive coaching and player development.
  • Take part in Yorkshire and ECB coach development opportunities, with the potential to work towards further coaching qualifications.

We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic, reliable and keen to learn. You'll need to hold a minimum ECB Level 2 Coaching Qualification and meet the safeguarding requirements of this role.

This internship is not full time, but those who are chosen to undertake the role will be expected to commit themselves to the following times:

  • 12 hours a week during October - March (Evenings and weekends)
  • 50 days of cricket during April - September (Inclusive of weekdays and weekends)

This role will be primarily based at Headingley Cricket Ground between October and March. During April and September, you will then be expected to travel as required for the role, including travel across the county and to away games.

How to register interest

To register your interest, please complete this form and submit a short expression of interest (1000 words maximum) telling us why you'd like to join the internship, any relevant coaching, volunteering or leadership experience you have, and what you hope to gain from the opportunity.

If you'd like to be part of the future of girls' cricket in Yorkshire, we'd love to hear from you.

Our Commitment

Due to this role being in regulated activity, the postholder will be required to undertake an ECB Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check; it is a criminal offence for a barred person to attempt to engage with vulnerable groups. The possession of a criminal record will not necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are judged individually according to the nature of the role and information provided.
