As a Head of Legal and Compliance you will be a key leader responsible for overseeing and coordinating the legal and compliance functions across Your designated region – Kenya, Africa Hub. The role involves ensuring Eleving operations in Kenya align with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring legal compliance, mitigating risks, and providing strategic guidance to the Management Team as well as maintaining Company reputation.
The position is based in Vilnius HQ with frequent travelling to Kenya and direct reporting to Eleving Africa Hub CEO.
The ideal candidate should have experience in fintech, finance or related environment, with a deep understanding legal regulations and compliance requirements.
What you will do:
- Manage and develop a small team of legal professionals (Team based in Kenya)
- Build, manage relationships and work closely with external law firms, regulatory authorities, and other internal and external stakeholders
- Review, draft and negotiate documents and agreements relating to funding from global institutional investors, effectively manage litigation and conflict resolution cases
- Oversee and ensure compliance with regulatory and reporting requirements to respective supervising authorities
- Monitor draft laws and changes in legislation and coordinate actions required to ensure compliance and adequate controls
- Ensure regulatory compliance and implement best corporate governance practices
- Address legal risks and issues proactively, think creatively across end-to-end processes and lead or take active part in cross-functional teams to incorporate legal aspects and controls across business operations
