We are currently expanding our team to include a Database Developer who will play a key role in migrating billing and online charging systems from legacy platforms to our award-winning Effortel EMS.
The Role:
As a Database Developer, you will be at the forefront of driving the successful migration of customer data and systems to the Effortel EMS platform. Your responsibilities will include designing, implementing, and optimizing database solutions tailored for telecom billing and charging processes. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with development and operational teams to establish a smooth data migration process and ensure minimal disruption to client operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Data Migration Leadership:
· Lead the end-to-end data migration process for billing and online charging systems, ensuring accuracy and consistency across systems.
· Develop and execute migration plans, including data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) procedures.
• Database Design and Optimization:
· Analyze and adapt existing database schemas to support product catalog, pricing, eligibility rules, and other telecom-specific features.
· Ensure the database design is optimized for scalability and performance within the EMS platform.
• Integration Expertise:
· Work closely with the development team to integrate migrated data with Effortel’s EMS and legacy systems.
· Ensure seamless communication between databases and APIs, supporting existing integrations with customer systems.
• Process Improvement:
· Identify and implement best practices for data migration to minimize downtime and reduce operational risks.
· Provide insights to streamline data transformation processes and improve system performance.
• Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing:
· Act as a subject matter expert for data migration within the team, mentoring colleagues who have limited migration experience.
· Collaborate with stakeholders across development, operations, and client teams to align migration strategies with business goals.
• Testing and Validation:
· Conduct rigorous testing and validation to ensure data integrity and system compatibility post-migration.
· Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to validate migration success from the customer’s perspective.
Key Requirements for the Role:
• Proven experience with database migration projects, ideally within telecom billing or charging systems;
• Proficiency in Oracle Database and PostgreSQL;
• Expertise in ETL processes, including tools such as Talend, Pentaho, or custom ETL scripting;
• Strong understanding of SQL query optimization, performance tuning, and data modeling;
• Familiarity with telecom billing and online charging systems architecture and workflows;
• Experience with data validation, reconciliation, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards;
• Hands-on experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and familiarity with Agile development methodologies;
• Ability to design, document, and execute detailed data migration plans;
• Strong collaboration skills to work across technical and non-technical teams
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail;
• Fluent in English with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Additional Skills (Preferred):
• Knowledge of Java or scripting languages (Python, Shell) for custom ETL tasks;
• Familiarity with telecom standards and protocols, including 3GPP;
• Understanding of cloud-based database systems and containerized environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes);
• Experience with monitoring and resolving data migration issues during live customer cutovers;
