Overview

Salary: £25,000 - £27,000 (including travel expenses and bring your own device) 


Location: Birmingham, remote with some travel to Essex and London


Hours: 36.5 hours - Monday – Friday, including occasional weekends 


Contract type: Fixed Term – 30 November 2025 – Job share will be considered

  • To coordinate a series of events and promotion activities which have political, policy and influencing dimensions across various system including active travel, health & wellbeing and community development.
  • The role will require a highly motivated and committed person who can champion TAWS values ensuring tenacious delivery.
  • To support business development/Comms projects and priorities over a 12-month period.
  • To coordinate a series of BD events – from concept stage through to delivery.
  • To expand and amplify national outreach.

Main Duties

  1. Support the National Cycle Lead to deliver a programme of activities.
  2. Work flexibly and collaboratively, often at pace to deliver the event series with a strong focus on attention to detail.
  3. Be able to deploy a variety of communications skills and techniques to reach target audience.
  4. Ability to communicate with delegates including organising delegate information/packs, delegate lists and disseminate information within tight deadlines.
  5. Liaising with speakers and event logistics
  6. Work closely with other team members to ensure the effective co-ordination of all projects within the programme work streams.
  7. Collaborate with the National Cycling Lead and Head of Comms and Marketing to review and plan work streams, outcomes, priorities and associated budgets.
  8. Liaise with Head of Strategy to conduct and support regular policy scoping and research, scanning policy developments on health, transport, community, sustainability, public health and related areas of social policy and feeding this back to the organisation
  9. Assist with the communication of the findings of our work to a range of audiences, including policymakers, academics and the media 
  10. Help build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders relevant to our policy portfolio
  11. Support all aspects of event planning and related communications (e.g. email/phone/digital channels).
  12. Use project management techniques and tools to approach the tasks in a systematic and coherent fashion.
  13. Manage risks including developing mitigation strategies to ensure that events are delivered in a way that manages and minimises risks.


MarComms

  1. To join a fast-paced organisation and support the growth of TAWS, and maximise opportunities for national delivery.
  2. To help widely raise the profile of TAWS across all areas of work.
  3. Support marketing requests and administrative tasks (e.g. updating website, monitoring marketing inbox, responding to marketing requests).
  4. Track record of working autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced, and challenging environment.
  5. Skills in identifying problems early and developing effective solutions.
  6. Highly organised.
  7. Ability to make informed decisions on their own and also know when to escalate an issue/problem to their line manager. 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • 3 years of relevant experience
  • A sound understanding of the UK social and political landscape and inequalities.
  • Proven track record of providing administrative support for complex projects or programmes of work.
  • Proven track record of events coordination and delivery.
  • The required soft communication skills to liaise with multiple stakeholders and also to help get the best or what you need from people in support of advancing projects/work streams.
  • Substantial digital skills that supports word processing, spreadsheet technology, online project management systems (Monday.com), website content creation, Eventbrite, outlook and share point file system.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and some experience of policy research and analysis
  • Excellent time management skills: ability to plan, multi-task and prioritise work to ensure that all activities are completed within deadlines
  • Able to work effectively and collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Awareness of political landscape and emerging new Government priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage projects/workstreams and prioritise accordingly
  • Knowledge of co-design and/or Asset Based Community Development principles (desirable)
  • Proactive and able to work on own initiative
  • Able to use Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • Project Management (Desirable)
  • A sound understanding of public affairs/external relations.
