We are looking for individuals who are passionate about:

• Commercial delivery

• Procurement processes and reform

• Procurement AI and emerging technologies

• Driving best practice in commercial teams

• Embedding sustainable change across organisations

Veran Performance offers a dynamic, inclusive work environment that encourages growth, collaboration, and innovation. Every team member is valued and empowered to make a meaningful impact, contributing directly to the success and growth of our business.

About the Role

As a Lead Procurement Consultant, you will play a pivotal role in guiding clients through complex procurement and commercial transformation programmes — from shaping strategic direction and building robust business cases, to delivering future operating models, embedding change, and enabling service delivery through technology.

You will lead multi-disciplinary teams, act as the primary client contact for procurement transformation initiatives, and be accountable for ensuring the successful delivery of agreed outcomes. This is a highly visible role, requiring a blend of subject matter expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead end-to-end procurement transformation programmes, ensuring alignment with client objectives and timelines.
  • Facilitate high-level design workshops with senior business stakeholders to shape procurement strategies for large-scale annual expenditure.
  • Oversee preparation and quality assurance of commercial data for new platforms.
  • Drive market engagement activities, shaping supply markets for general goods/services and specialist sectors.
  • Own and manage commercial project plans, risks, documentation, and governance processes.
  • Champion and deliver change aligned to the Procurement Act and other regulatory reforms.

Expertise & Advisory

  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients, bringing proven experience in commercial service delivery, procurement design, and supplier management.
  • Provide thought leadership on procurement best practice, including evaluation methodologies, contracting strategies, and supplier relationship management.
  • Stay ahead of industry trends, procurement technology innovations, and legislative changes to provide cutting-edge advice.

Future Service Design & Commercial Delivery

  • Lead clients through the design and agreement of future procurement service models, translating strategic goals into deliverable commercial solutions.
  • Develop contracting vehicles and procurement documentation that enable competitive, high-quality supplier bids.
  • Direct evaluation processes to ensure supplier selection aligns with agreed outcomes and benefits realisation.

Technology Enablement

  • Advise on the selection, configuration, and implementation of procurement platforms and enabling technologies (Workday, SAP, Oracle, etc.).
  • Act as the bridge between business teams and technical delivery partners, ensuring solutions meet operational needs.

Change Leadership

  • Translate strategic change into practical impacts for individuals and teams.
  • Identify and track benefits, ensuring they are embedded and measurable.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members, building capability within both Veran and client teams.

Business Development & Community Contribution

  • Support Veran’s growth by identifying opportunities for additional client engagement.
  • Contribute to the development of Veran’s commercial service offerings, frameworks, and thought leadership.

About You

You will be a seasoned procurement professional with extensive experience in commercial transformation, ideally within both public and private sectors. You have the credibility to influence senior stakeholders and the expertise to lead complex programmes from inception to delivery.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Significant experience in leading commercial and procurement transformation programmes.
  • Proven track record in commercial service design, contract management, and supplier relationship management.
  • Strong understanding of procurement technologies and their application in service transformation.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to inspire and guide multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficient in creating clear, concise procurement documentation using Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel within the UK as required.

Desirable:

  • CIPS qualification (or working towards).
  • Consulting experience within a top-tier or specialist procurement consultancy.
  • Experience working within government commercial delivery teams.
