Role Description

Chapel Down, England’s leading and most recognised English wine producer, is recruiting a Warehouse Operative to support the movement of raw materials and finished stock in and out of our warehouse, alongside picking, packing and stock control. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in accuracy, and wants to be part of a fast-paced production environment.

 

The position is based within our warehouse at Ashford and will be responsible for loading and unloading raw materials and finished stock, both in and out of site, as well as picking and packing customer orders accurately and efficiently. The role will also assist with regular stocktakes and stock control activities, working closely with colleagues across the production and logistics teams to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

 

We are looking for a confident, reliable communicator who works well with colleagues at all levels. A positive, can-do attitude and a willingness to “get stuck in” are essential along with a practical mindset and good attention to detail. You will be a flexible team player who responds well to changing production demands, while also being self-motivated and capable of working independently and using initiative.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Warehouse Operations:

  • Loading and unloading dry goods, wine for production and finished stock in and out of the warehouse, using appropriate handling equipment.
  • Checking deliveries against paperwork on arrival and ensuring outgoing stock is correctly labelled, packaged and dispatched.
  • Accurately picking and packing customer orders ready for dispatch.
  • Moving and storing stock safely within the warehouse, maintaining accurate stock locations and updating internal systems and documentation as required.
  • Deputise for the Warehouse Manager as required.

 

Stock Control & General Support:

  • Carrying out routine stock counts, supporting the wider stocktake process and helping to maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Carrying out basic cleaning, maintenance and housekeeping tasks to ensure warehouse areas and equipment are kept in good working order and maintained to a high standard, reporting any faults or issues promptly.


LOCATION AND HOURS

 

This role is based on-site at our warehouse and production facility in Ashford, Kent. The working pattern is day shift, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.

Skills and Experience

  • Comfortable with manual handling and the demands of warehouse work, including standing, lifting and moving stock for extended periods.
  • A valid counterbalance forklift licence.
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy, particularly when picking, packing and recording stock movements.
  • Willing to work flexibly across warehouse areas and tasks as required by operational needs.

 

Desirable

  • Previous experience in a warehouse, logistics or manufacturing role would be advantageous, particularly within food, drink or other fast moving consumer goods.
  • Experience with warehouse management or stock control systems is also an advantage.
