Architectural Technologist (Residential/Housing Team)

We are looking for an Architectural Technologist to join our Residential & Housing team, working across a range of exciting projects that help create places where people can live well.

Our residential work spans a variety of scales and contexts, from new housing and larger residential developments to projects within existing and historic buildings. You’ll be joining a collaborative team that cares deeply about the quality, character, and long-term sustainability of the places we create.

This is a role for someone who enjoys getting into the detail and seeing a project through to completion – from developing design proposals and technical information, through planning and building regulations, to tender and delivery on site.

As an Architectural Technologist, you’ll play an integral role in the technical design and delivery of our residential projects. 

You’ll use your technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and understanding of construction to help turn great design into buildings that work.

Key responsibilities

You’ll be involved in:

• Developing detailed technical designs and specifications in line with current legislation, regulations, and standards.
• Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary design teams, taking responsibility for technical delivery on small to medium-sized projects, and supporting senior colleagues on larger or more complex schemes.
• Coordinating architectural information with consultants and other disciplines to ensure projects are well integrated and deliverable.
• Managing projects through planning, building regulations, and other relevant statutory consents.
• Working with external consultants and contractors to maintain quality and progress throughout the project.
• Contributing to the preparation and coordination of information for tender and construction.
• Engaging with clients and colleagues to understand project requirements and provide practical, technically sound solutions.
• Supporting project management, programme, and commercial considerations, including fee forecasting, invoicing, and project profitability.
• Sharing your technical knowledge and helping colleagues develop their understanding of technical design and delivery.

You'll also be expected to contribute to the wider life of the studio and to the culture we're building at Buttress.

We're looking for someone who is technically strong, collaborative, and curious, with a genuine interest in how good design and good technical thinking come together.

You’ll have:

• A relevant degree or equivalent qualification and relevant post-qualification experience.
• Professional qualification and/or membership of a relevant professional body, such as CIAT.
• Experience of technical design and delivery within residential and housing projects.
• Proficiency in relevant design and technical software, including Revit.
• Experience of SketchUp, Photoshop, InDesign and Microsoft Office would also be beneficial.
• Experience of CMAP or similar project management software would be advantageous.
• Experience of working on residential conversion projects would be advantageous.

Salary: £33,500 to £36,000 per annum, subject to experience
