CAD Technician

  • Full-time
  • R&D
  • Cotes Mill, Loughborough

Description

deVOL Kitchens is one of the leading and most highly regarded kitchen companies in the UK, with manufacturing and design offices based in Leicestershire, London, Bath, New York, and Los Angeles. We are looking for a highly motivated, capable, and friendly person to join our Product Design team at our Leicestershire office as a CAD Technician.

We are looking for someone who is proficient in SolidWorks, experienced in surface modelling, and capable of creating and modifying complex forms. In addition, you should be confident using 2D CAD software such as AutoCAD or DraftSight. The role will involve working closely with the Product Designers in our R&D department to provide CAD support across a wide range of projects, creating new models and adapting existing designs in response to feedback and development requirements. You will also be responsible for producing technical drawings and documentation for manufacturers, suppliers, and internal teams. Occasionally, the role will require you to produce realistic renders and visualisations to support product development or provide website product imagery. While this will not form a major part of the role, an ability to create realistic product renders would be advantageous.

There will also be an opportunity to take ownership of our in-house 3D printing operation. This includes maintaining and troubleshooting 3D printing equipment, managing stocks of printing materials and consumables, scheduling and running prototype prints, and supporting the wider Product Design team with rapid prototyping throughout the product development process. An interest in additive manufacturing and hands-on problem solving would therefore be highly beneficial.

Key Responsibilities

  • Producing CAD drawings (2D & 3D) and information for product documentation.
  • Communicating with suppliers and manufacturers to make amendments to technical drawings to match adapted manufacturing processes.
  • Producing the drawings and technical specifications required for: Product Compliance, Certification (UK & US), and Intellectual Property.
  • Issuing production drawings and documentation to our internal production departments
  • Producing 3D printed prototypes to assist the development of designs
  • Producing realistic render scenes when projects require it to either review a potential design concept or to produce website product visuals.
  • Continued product quality control by cross-referencing production samples to technical drawings.

Skills and Attributes

We would love you to –

  • Have a degree, HND, HNC or equivalent qualification in Product Design, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Have strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage your workload effectively.
  • Be self-motivated, proactive, and able to demonstrate initiative.
  • Be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate work.
  • Proficient in both 2D and 3D CAD software, including AutoCAD or DraftSight and SolidWorks. Experience with Blender would be advantageous for modelling more complex and sculptural forms but is not essential.
  • At least two years industry experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Be able to create realistic product renders and visualisations for presentations and product development
  • Have experience using KeyShot
