Background

We are looking for a Operations director to lead our busy Operations Team on a full time basis based in Haverhill. You will become a member of the board and leadership team and assume ultimate responsibility and accountability for the Operations Team.


You will provide vision and engaging leadership to the Haverhill team, be able to coach and help the team on the shop floor and be equally as comfortable in the boardroom.


The main purpose of this role is to head the Operations department, be a business leader for the Haverhill team and drive a mindset of continuous improvement across the operations team.


You will actively work collaboratively with peers in Sales, Product development, finance, HR, and IT to ensure alignment of priorities and action.

What you'll do

  • Delivery of Safety, People, Quality, Delivery, Cash & Cost (SPQDCC) results for operations through setting realistic but challenging targets cascaded from the business objectives and strategic plan.
  • Business leader for H&S for both operations and the wider business.
  • Drives a Continuous Improvement mindset across Operations and adoption of best practice lean principles, tools and behaviours.
  • Developing and deploying the operations strategy into Haverhill. Supporting mentoring, coaching and competence development of their team to deliver the strategy.
  • Establishing and developing a Haverhill Site Operations leadership team, engaging and motivating them to work as a team
  • Working collaboratively with peers in Sales, Product Development, Finance, HR and IT to ensure alignment of priorities and action.
  • Ensuring robust performance management and development plans are in place to create an efficient and engaged workforce.
  • Supporting the Supply Chain Manager to establish and deploy world class procurement, planning and logistics processes and performance.
  • Supporting the Production Manager to ensure disciplined execution of manufacturing processes related to man (standard work), material (planning, flow, inventory), machine (TPM and O.E.E)
  • Value Stream Design, current state improvements in performance, future state design and capacity/investment planning, in conjunction with the project engineering group.

Who you are

  • Significant relevant experience within a manufacturing environment, including major step change improvements/transformations.
  • Outstanding communications and team building skills. Passionate and naturally comfortable in engaging, empowering, and challenging teams.
  • Manage diverse teams, multiple disciplines, ideally matrix structure, within dynamic and complex environment.
  • Possesses a strong working knowledge of manufacturing including the underlying theories and concepts of lean manufacturing, planning, supply chain management, ERP systems and new product introductions.
  • Demonstrable experience of environmental, health and safety management in a production/manufacturing business
  • Experience of deploying a Quality Management Systems into a value stream
  • Lean manufacturing and Value Stream Mapping
  • Financial/Costing – advanced P&L level understanding
  • University education with a technical or business focus and substantial relevant experience.
