CARES is a partner in the AMPLE project (An Accelerated Manufacturing Platform for Engineered Nanomaterials), aiming to build a state-of-the-art pilot facility for rapidly scaling-up nanomaterial production, building upon recent innovations at CARES in the areas of reactor design, machine learning and automation. This two-year project started in 2022 and will lead to commercialization through CARES’ spinoff company (Accelerated Materials Ltd.).


Who are we looking for?

We are seeking for a (Temp) Pilot Lab Technician to assist the Ample project team in running production trials for nanomaterials synthesis. The ideal technician would have a strong safety-oriented ethic, an effective communicator, and a methodical nature. This short-term role will also give the candidate exposure to a startup environment and new technologies in nanomaterials manufacturing, automation and artificial intelligence. This will be a fixed-term contract that ends on 30 November 2024 with the possibility of extending to a longer-term position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Material Preparation of 20 L of chemicals, able to lift 30 kg daily. 
  • Monitor and operate equipment handling batch process, 20 L or more, in a safe and efficient manner 
  • Respond to alarms and other process-related issues on time 
  • Perform cleaning tasks after trials 
  • Basic understanding of coding and ladder logic is a plus, but not necessary 
  • Prior experience with wiring and electronics is preferred, but not necessary 
  • Able to perform manual titration and other daily lab tasks 
  • Assist in procurement and accept parcel delivery 
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and guidelines 

Qualifications:

  • Tertiary certification in chemistry, chemical engineering or related field 
  • Knowledge of general chemical engineering concepts, such as mass and mole balance 
  • Familiarity with working in a chemical laboratory or pilot plant is a plus 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to use basic computer software, including Microsoft Office and data entry programs. Python scripting knowledge is a plus.
