Salary: £18,267 per annum (FTE £26,670)

Hours: Part time 25 hours per week. Flexible working will be required across evenings and weekends.

Location: Sandwell, Birmingham

Contract type: Fixed term until November 2026

We have an exciting new opportunity to extend our delivery into the Sandwell Borough of the West Midlands. This role will be responsible for achieving delivery targets on their Active Green Spaces programme, a Sandwell MBC Public Health intervention. You will be responsible for supporting the Community Development Lead, in the operational planning and delivery of community-based street interventions, community development and delivery through street closures and other community activities that ensure wellbeing outcomes for our target audience and places that support people to be engaged in their own communities in. Support and training will be provided throughout your role. 

Main duties

  1. Work with communities and local organisations to develop and deliver ideas and activities to support people who have barriers to community engagement and wellbeing predominantly in outdoor spaces.   
  2. Develop relationships with key stakeholders and ensure connectivity between agencies, community groups and other key organisations in the local community. 
  3. Support the design of a clear and understandable delivery plan including innovative ways to engage those with the greatest barriers to participation.      
  4. Ensure compliance with The Active Wellbeing Society processes and procedures in place within the organisation.   
  5. Teamwork: Work within the team and the wider organisation to support the values of the organisation.    
  6. Produce reports, keep records and undertake administrative duties in connection with the post.   
  7. Support and adopt the mission, aim and values of The Active Wellbeing Society, throughout your work and behaviours.  
  8. Develop new opportunities in particular underrepresented groups to ensure that The Active Wellbeing Society is brought to new audiences, with a particular focus on the inactive or hard to reach citizens.    
  9. Develop relationships within communities to become a trusted source for development and delivery.    
  10. Work closely with Marketing to promote activity that is targeted at our audience. 

Other tasks

  1. Ensure compliance with Health & Safety and relevant procedures and policies, including the completion of Risk Assessments.  
  2. Follow safe working practices in order to achieve a safe and healthy working environment. 
  3. Adhere and be aware of policy relating to equality and diversity issues in service delivery and development.     
  4. Ensure that appropriate safeguarding of children and adults at risk are adhered to.    
  5. Actively promote membership of the Society and inspire local people to get involved, placing members at the heart of the organisation.  

Knowledge, skills and experience

  1. Ability to coordinate and consult internal and external organisations (including community groups) to provide pathways of opportunity for active citizenship and community activity.    
  2. Be empathetic and have a knowledge of the barriers that exist to activity within communities.    
  3. Adaptable and able to work at pace, working autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic and challenging environment.    
  4. Ability to represent The Active Wellbeing Society at appropriate forums and meetings and experience of presentation preparation / delivery to stakeholders.    
  5. Experience of tailoring development and delivery for differing levels of ability.    
  6. Ability to plan, prioritise, achieve targets, and deliver to deadlines.  
  7. A genuine passion for the wellbeing of others and a drive to improve the lives of individuals and communities by bringing them together to improve their mental and physical wellbeing . 
  8. Experience of dealing with a wide range of stakeholders from across different sectors. 
  9. Excellent organisational and administrative skills. 
  10. A flexible approach to all working practices with the willingness to support other team members in their work as required (including presence at events).  
  11. Competent IT skills and familiarity with social media, with the ability to pick up skills in new systems as required.  
  12. Excellent communication skills.    
  13. Evidence of a commitment to ongoing personal development and training.   
  14. Hold a UK driving licence (due to business needs a valid UK driving licence is essential for 2 out of 3 roles for transporting equipment to events)
