About the Role

BCCOHP is seeking a ​temporary​, ​full-time​ ​Manager, Professional Advisors​ to join our ​Professional Practice​ team for a 19-month contract. This position will report to the ​​​Director, Professional Practice​​. 


The successful candidate will be responsible for ​overseeing and leading a team of professional advisors who work strategically across the organization providing innovative oral health professional and regulatory expertise, support and advice to all regulatory and operational functions. This ​includes standards and guidance development, engagement and communications where professional expertise is required​.  

Essential Duties

Regulatory  

  • Ensure timely, accurate and appropriate responses by expert advisors to stakeholder enquiries, including those of patients, the public and registrants. 
  • Oversee the department’s team of professional advisors. 
  • Support the Director, Professional Practice (the Director) in ensuring that all BCCOHP’s regulatory policies allow for processes that are proportionate, consistent, and fair, take account of the statutory objectives, the regulator’s standards and the relevant case law and prioritize patient and service user safety. 
  • Support the Director in ensuring that BCCOHP has an effective process for development and revision of standards and guidance, taking into account stakeholders’ views and experiences, external events, developments in provincial, national, and international regulation, and best practices and learning from other areas of its work. 
  • Work with the regulatory function Directors and Managers on development of processes and policies requiring further integration post amalgamation. 
  • Provide professional and regulatory advice to various BCCOHP areas to further develop processes and programs. 
  • Provide support for other processes or projects within the regulatory function as related to professional practice. 


Team Management and Leadership 

  • Contribute to strategic discussions and decision-making for BCCOHP and its professional team. 
  • Provide leadership, management, mentorship, and supervision of the professional advisor team. 
  • Ensure each member of the professional advisor staff team has a clear understanding of their role, accountability, authority, and responsibilities. 
  • Ensure each member of the professional advisor staff team is provided with performance reviews and planning. 

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education combined with a minimum of five years of relevant work experience in a regulatory environment or oral health profession, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Knowledge or background in regulation and/or government policy is an asset.  
  • Current practising registration or certification in good standing with BCCOHP is an asset. 
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Attention to detail and dependability are second nature. 
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion. 
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and interpersonal, with a demonstrated ability to draft clear, professional correspondence and effectively engage with internal/external individuals.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, databases, web-based tools, electronic filing, content/document management, cloud-based applications and intranets along with advanced computer skills, including internet, phone, and video conferencing tools.
  • Resilient and calm under pressure, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently.  
  • Ability and willingness to adapt to change in a growing organization and collaborate cross departmentally.  
  • Strong interpersonal skills, compassionate but confident with the ability to engage in difficult conversations with tact and clarity. 
  • High degree of professionalism.  
  • Self-directed and motivated, with the ability to set and meet goals independently. 
  • Anti-racism and/or diversity, equity and inclusion training or equivalent self-directed training is an asset.  
  • Indigenous Cultural Safety training or equivalent self-directed training is an asset. 
  • Remote work experience and experience in a regulatory or not-for-profit environment is an asset.   

Work Arrangement

Work Hours

BCCOHP's regular hours of business are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. This is a full-time permanent position, requiring 35 hours per week (7 hours per day) with additional hours being required from time to time to fulfill responsibilities of the position.

 

Flexibility

BCCOHP offers flexibility for a hybrid work arrangement depending on the role and operational needs. The number of days required to be in office for this position is dependent on operational needs and workload.

 

We also offer core work hours between 9:30 am - 2:30 pm. The successful candidate may adjust their work day as long as they are working within the set core work hours, and depending on operational needs.

Total Compensation & Perks

The successful candidate will be offered a competitive compensation and benefits package and can typically expect a starting annual salary between $93,983.69 and $109,647.64 depending on factors such as skills, experience, and education relative to the requirements of the role.
