Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Finance, your primary responsibility is to oversee the day to day accounting operations of all companies within Diamond Hotels Management Inc. This includes five major franchised hotels, the Kingston Frontenacs Hockey Club, various land holding and commercial real estate companies and any future companies associated with Diamond Hotels Management Inc.

 

You will assist in the planning, controlling, reporting and measuring of the information and assets of all companies. You will produce and analyze financial information critical to business interests as well as create and present reports to management regarding accounting data to enable knowledge-based decision making and forecasts. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Analytical review of the reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis, including the reconciliation of subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger
  • Monthly variance analysis from budget
  • Coordinate and oversee the preparation of year-end audit working papers including assets, liabilities, revenues and expenditures
  • Preparation of monthly financial statements and distribution of accurate and reliable financial reports (following approval of the Chief Financial Officer) to management and ownership
  • Preparation of year-end comparative financial statements and supporting schedules and assistance with the preparation of the annual report
  • Oversee the accurate preparation and filing of income statements in a timely manner
  • Oversee the approval and processing of revenue, expenditure, department budgets, ledger and account maintenance, and data entry.
  • Conduct policy and procedure audits for all divisions
  • Oversee the payroll, accounts receivable, cash receipts and accounts payable functions providing assistance to other team members in the review of operations and any other ad-hoc reports and requests
  • Assist in monitoring cash requirements daily and producing monthly cash forecasts
  • Development and maintenance of manuals documenting accounting procedures and policies
  • Review, recommend, and implement improvements to establish procedures and processes to increase operation efficiency.
  • Coach and guide accounting team members, including review and approval of work assignments and training requirements of the team including completion of regular performance review
  • Oversee the development of working papers and excel spreadsheets to facilitate the preparation of departmental budgets
  • Collection and analysis of historical data to be used in the budget process
  • Assistance in the preparation of the budget presentation to ownership
  • Maintain financial security by researching and reconciling discrepancies; auditing and verifying documents; following internal controls; completing data backups
  • Responsible for maintaining banks accounts and requests

Qualifications

  • University Degree in Accounting with a CPA designation
  • Minimum 5 years working experience in accounting required
  • Current knowledge of accepted accounting rules, practices, tax laws, and reporting requirements
  • Hospitality experience preferred but not necessary
  • Effective communication skills with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Strong interpersonal and proven leadership skills
  • Computer literate, including strong knowledge of MS Office and Excel
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts
  • Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines
  • Strong organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures
  • Strong attention to detail in all areas of work
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work and communicate effectively within a diverse team environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment with co-workers, guests and partners
