This role is responsible for building a range of bikes, carrying out pre-delivery inspections and general repairs, the servicing of our fleet of bikes and the provision of Dr Bike or other cycle maintenance related events. 

This position is Freelance, any work will be paid at a rate of £12.00P/H.


Main outcomes to be delivered by the role:

  • Build a range of bikes to cater for the communities that we serve.
  • Carry out pre-delivery inspections of (a) bikes that we have purchased from our preferred supplier(s) and (b) bikes being sent out from our workshop for use in schools and the community.
  • To carry out general repairs and the servicing of our bike fleet using an agreed schedule as approved by the Cycling Manager. This will include bike repairs being carried out in our workshop and also at our Bike Hubs in the community.
  • To work with the community to deliver Cycle Maintenance Workshops and Dr. Bike sessions.
  • To work with the Cycling Manger and Community Activators to ensure the brand and integrity of our projects including; Bike Banks, Learn to Ride, Ride Active, Bikes Hubs and Bikeability.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Ideally Cytech qualified, your mechanical knowledge will be matched by your ability to be a team player who is able to deliver a first class technical service through high standards and the efficient turnaround of maintenance and repairs work.
  • Have at least 3 years’ experience in a bicycle workshop.
  • Ability to build a range of bikes upon delivery from our preferred supplier(s) to meet the organisation’s deadlines.
  • Good partnership and relationship management skills.
  • Clear knowledge of quality assurance processes. Experience of using quality assurance to assist service delivery.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Good computer skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is desirable.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the cooperative principles and commitment to ensuring their delivery in the course of undertaking the role.
  • Driving licence or preparedness to work towards securing one.
