Banquet Staff/Banquet Captain

Position Summary

This is a dual-role position that includes responsibilities of both a Banquet Staff and a Banquet Captain. During your Banquet Staff shifts, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional service by setting up, serving, and maintaining meeting and event spaces according to guest specifications. In addition, you will occasionally step into the leadership role of Banquet Captain, where you’ll oversee the coordination and execution of Food & Beverage functions, act as a point of contact for both clients and staff, and ensure all banquet events run smoothly and meet hotel standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

BANQUET STAFF:

  • Sign in 5 minutes before shift and pick up keys.
  • Complete meeting room set-ups and tear downs
  • Check daily Event Orders (EO’s) to make sure everything is done to guest specifications.
  • Meet with clients to review needs outlined on Event Orders.
  • Serving of food and drinks, such breakfast, coffee service, working lunches, afternoon coffee breaks etc as required in a professional manner
  • Refresh all rooms during lunch break.
  • Keep an eye on all meetings in progress and check in during breaks to ensure all requirements are being met.
  • Clean out rooms at end of function and re-set rooms for next function.
  • Ensure all Banquet rooms and storage areas are clean at all times and kept in proper condition according to company standards.
  • Provide a verbal briefing to next shift to ensure all work is up to date.
  • Always work in a quiet, orderly fashion so as not to disturb meetings that are in progress.
  • Ensure Banquet check list and side jobs are completed on a daily basis.
  • Provide feedback to Banquet Captains of supply levels. (Starbucks and Coke supplies, candies, sternos, napkins etc.)
  • Ensure proper storage and placement of all Banquets inventory.
  • Communicate all event schedule requests or changes to Banquet Captain.
  • Remove all garbage, bottles, food trays and recycling and take to appropriate disposal area
  • Assure that all meeting rooms are locked at all times, when not in use.


BANQUET CAPTAIN:

  • Co-ordinate service of all Food & Beverage and Meeting functions
  • Assist the Senior Banquet Manager with scheduling of staff based on upcoming events. You will be the point of contact for scheduling needs/cancellation of shifts.
  • Develop strong relationship through appropriate communication and professional interactions with clients and staff
  • Coordinate the ordering of non-alcoholic beverages and linen needs for upcoming events
  • Program lobby reader boards on a daily basis
  • Ensure that each function is set-up according to hotel standards and client requests
  • Preparing bar inventory for functions, including opening and closing inventories, accurate bar summaries and cash deposits
  • Greeting clients on their arrival and orienting them with the facilities
  • Assisting in the training of all Banquet Staff
  • Ensure all Banquet rooms and storage areas are clean at all times and kept in proper condition according to company standards
  • Promote teamwork, intercultural competency among team members, quality guest service through education, effective communication and coordination with other departments
  • Supports and promotes a culture of equity, diversity, inclusion and indigeneity that respects and incorporates different perspectives in decision making
  • Perform duties of a Porter/Server as required


The above areas of responsibility are not all inclusive and may be amended from time to time.




Qualifications

  • Completion of secondary school diploma (Grade 12) plus additional post-secondary courses or licenses or a one year certificate in a related area, or equivalent.
  • Minimum one year customer service experience, preferably in a Banquet setting
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and sound decision making abilities
  • Must be able to lift heavy objects
  • Must be polite, courteous, and respectful
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Must pay attention to detail and be a team player
  • Must possess the ability to communicate effectively within a diverse team environment
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a multi-cultural environment with co-workers, managers, and guests
  • Must be flexible to work any shift
