WHAT WE NEED

We are looking for a Maintenance Operative to work as part of the team supporting the delivery of the maintenance programme across Port of Aberdeen. 


  • At the direction of maintenance management or a supervisor, work on a variety of tasks including maintenance of roads, quays, drains, buildings, breakwaters and the general infrastructure of the port. 
  • Tasks will include cleaning, road sweeping, manual handling, collection and deliveries and any other port activity.
  • Responsible for operating and using equipment, tools and machinery to carry out work, subject to relevant training and qualifications. Tasks will involve driving and operating plant and vehicles.
  • Required to work alongside and assist a tradesman.
  • In conjunction with the Deputy Maintenance Manager / Supervisor contribute to the preparation and review of risk assessments.
  • Participate in a planned winter standby maintenance procedure as part of an on-call rota.
  • May be required to work in inclement weather and at height and some work will be on or over water.
  • Carry out all duties of this post in accordance with the relevant PoA policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all work carried out is done in a safe and efficient manner and in line with PoA Health, Safety and Environment policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to and support a positive safety culture to continually achieve zero harm.
  • Carry out any other duties which might reasonably be expected by maintenance management / supervisor.
  • Occasionally may be required to attend work outside normal hours.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous relevant experience in a maintenance role.
  • Hold or be willing to gain qualifications that may be required for the role such as HGV licence.
  • An understanding of Health and Safety procedures, and a proactive approach to ensuring safety.
  • Good communication skills and a strong work ethic.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to work effectively in a demanding environment.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, customers and third party contractors.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • A full UK driving licence.

HOURS AND SALARY

37 hours per week, Monday to Friday


Salary £34,125 per annum
