Job Type – Full-Time, Permanent


Location – Must be based in the Republic of Ireland. We currently operate a hybrid homeworking model with flexible working hours. Some travel will be required to our offices in Naas or Dublin.


Working hours – Typically 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday but hours of work are flexible.


Salary - Competitive package.

About the Role


The successful candidate will work as part of a team to shape and advance policies that support the growth and development of the wind energy sector. The role will support WEI’s engagement with key industry stakeholders, policymakers, regulators and system operators.


The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in electricity grid policy and power system transformation, with experience engaging across the Irish energy sector. They will demonstrate strong analytical capability, stakeholder engagement skills and a commitment to supporting Ireland’s transition to a low-carbon electricity system.

Role Description

The successful candidate will be joining our Policy and Research Team, working closely with our team of Policy Managers, Analysts and Graduates.


The Senior Policy Analyst will:

  • Take a leading role in delivering on WEI’s key policy objectives through engagement with senior stakeholders in the industry, particularly the Department of the Climate, Energy and the Environment (DCEE), EirGrid, ESB Networks and the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU).
  • Represent WEI at industry forums, stakeholder meetings, regulatory engagements and public events where required.
  • Support the Grid Policy Manager in coordinating WEI policy committees and working groups, including preparing agendas, presentations, consultation responses and member communications.
  • Analyse and develop policy positions relating to electricity grid development, such as the Electricity Connection Policy (ECP), Firm Access, Connection Delivery, Offshore Grid, and Dispatch Down.
  • Monitor and analyse Irish and European policy and regulatory developments affecting electricity grids and renewable integration.
  • Support WEI’s research activities through the production of evidence-based papers, management of consultants and delivery of funded research projects.
  • Gain a full understanding of the functioning of our organisation by contributing to our other key business functions across Public Affairs, Membership, Events and support to our leadership.
  • Work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outputs in a fast-paced policy environment.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across the Irish energy sector and wider policy community.
  • Provide direction and mentorship to junior staff members.

Requirements

Essential:



  • Minimum 4 years’ relevant experience in electricity grid policy, power systems, regulation, renewable energy or related energy sector activities.
  • Third-level qualification in engineering, science, energy systems, finance or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with key energy sector stakeholders, regulators, policymakers or industry participants.
  • Proven ability to analyse complex policy, regulatory or technical issues and develop evidence-based recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of Irish energy policy and regulatory frameworks, particularly relating to renewable energy integration and electricity grid development.
  • Experience preparing high-quality reports, consultation responses, briefing papers or policy position papers.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across industry, government and regulatory bodies.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver work to a high standard within tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and take initiative in a fast-paced policy environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated interest in renewable energy, decarbonisation and Ireland’s transition to a clean energy future.


Desirable Criteria:


  • Knowledge of electricity grid policy, including grid connections, transmission development, offshore grid development, dispatch down, system services and network planning.
  • Understanding of the Single Electricity Market (SEM), electricity market design and regulatory frameworks in Ireland and Europe.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy routes to market, including RESS and Corporate Power Purchase Agreements (CPPAs).
  • Experience engaging with organisations such as EirGrid, ESB Networks, CRU, government departments or European energy institutions.
  • Knowledge of EU energy and climate policy, including legislation relevant to renewable energy and grid integration.
  • Experience managing consultants, coordinating research projects or delivering evidence-based policy studies.
  • Experience supporting or coordinating industry working groups, committees or stakeholder forums.
  • Understanding of the Irish political, media and policy making landscape.
  • Experience mentoring junior colleagues, graduates or interns.
