C++ Software Architect - Real-time Graphics & Simulation

  • Full-time
  • Stettbach

About us:

Loft Dynamics AG is the global leader in virtual reality (VR) flight training, and the first company with VR simulators qualified by both the FAA and EASA. Trusted by Alaska Airlines, Airbus Helicopters, the Los Angeles Police Department, and more, we serve the full aviation ecosystem – spanning commercial airlines, eVTOLs, and diverse helicopter operators, as well as schools, OEMs, governments, and regulators. Our mission is to make pilot training safer and more accessible, affordable, and scalable than ever before.

We produce full-motion VR simulators for helicopters, airlines, and eVTOLs that are ten times smaller and significantly more cost-effective than legacy simulators. We also provide a connected suite of solutions that integrate our simulators worldwide, including at-home training kits, virtual instruction from the world’s top pilots, and AI-driven training intelligence. Loft Dynamics is leading a global paradigm shift in pilot training and powering the next generation of highly skilled pilots.

About the role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated C++ Software Architect – Real-time Graphics & Simulation

In this role, you will analyse and enhance a C++-based graphics and physics engine for high-performance VR applications, including flight simulators. The focus is on improving scalability, modularity, maintainability, and testability while preserving or enhancing existing functionality and performance. Refactoring is carried out incrementally in close collaboration with the development team, supported by automated testing, regression analysis, and performance profiling. AI-assisted tools are leveraged to support code analysis, architecture optimisation, and the reliable integration of changes.

Key responsibilities:

  • Analyse and refactor an extensive, performance-critical codebase for a C++ real-time graphics and physics engine.
  • Develop and evolve a scalable and maintainable architecture with clearly defined module boundaries, reduced dependencies, improved testability, and effective diagnostics.
  • Ensure that existing functionality, stability, and performance are maintained or improved throughout the refactoring process.
  • Use AI tools for code analysis, dependency mapping, architecture design, refactoring, and code integration.
  • Implement and integrate changes incrementally in close collaboration with the internal development team.
  • Validate changes through code reviews, automated end-to-end testing, regression testing, and performance profiling.
  • Design, implement, review, and optimise engine modules, including graphics, physics, memory management, concurrency, and other subsystems.
  • Establish technical standards for code quality, testing, observability, documentation, and maintainability.
  • Facilitate architecture and design reviews, share knowledge, and support the ISE team in resolving complex technical challenges.

Background and Skills:

  • Several years of experience in developing and refactoring complex, performance-critical C++ applications.
  • Strong knowledge of modern C++ standards, software architecture, software engineering patterns, modularisation, dependency management, multithreaded programming, and memory management.
  • Experience with real-time graphics, graphics engines, physics simulation, game engines, VR systems, or comparable simulation systems.
  • Practical experience with Vulkan or another low-level graphics API; knowledge of GPU programming is an advantage.
  • Strong experience with profiling, debugging, performance optimisation, and maintaining reliable systems under real-time constraints.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools for code analysis, architecture design, refactoring, testing, and code integration.Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently, systematically, and collaboratively.
  • Experience contributing to technical discussions, design reviews, mentoring engineers, or cross-functional technical initiatives.

We offer a modern and flexible working environment with the latest development tools, exciting challenges, and future-oriented career opportunities for you!
